Chumrah of the [shmitta] year
I've never heard of this chumrah before...
the chumrah is that the cows ate during Pesach "sefichin" - produce that is prohibited during shmitta - and therefore drinking milk from regular dairy cows is a problem. The sign offers anyone who wants to obtain milk from cows that have only eaten produce planted before this past Rosh Hashana and was harvested properly, should call...
I don't know why they don't just give the cows yevul nochri...
aren't the cows eating grass and hay anyway? what produce do they eat? I had n idea that cows are being given sefichin to eat, and I have no idea if that is a problem or not, let alone a problem with the milk that cow produces...

Clearly if this cow is slaughtered and it's skin used for tefillin, mezuzot or a sefer Torah, that Stam cannot be considered kosher. We must avoid tefillin, mezuzot and sefer Torah purchases for the next 3 years!
ReplyDelete(On a serious note, the use of treif slaughter produced parchment is a real and serious problem, one should verify with one's sofer that kosher-slaughter sourced parchment was used.)
are you serious? I thought parchment needed to be made from the hide of a tahor animal, but not necessarily a slaughtered/kosher animal.
DeleteClearly, there is no requirement for a sefer Torah to be made of kosher slaughtered animal. Must be a nice thing to have though. Even the highly regarded 'shlil' is apparently not realistic.
DeleteSee Shulchan Aruch O'C 32:12

The cows eat heiter mechira.
ReplyDeleteImport arab farmers to live in charedi neighborhoods and raise fresh hay for super 'kosher' cows to produce super 'kosher' milk. And charge twice as much. Then demonstrate against the 'evil tziyonim' who refuse to subsidize super 'kosher' (and probably stale / spoiled milk like in america) milk.
ReplyDeleteSatmar, as you may know, forbid tfillin made by sofrim who vote in tziyoni elections, and tfillin whose production has anything to do with israel. Of course, those retzuot / straps cost more than twice as much.
I have no words to respond to this "humrah." :-/
ReplyDeleteOn another topic, there is a[n apparently] little known joke among secular, Heter Mekhirah, Kibbutzim. Arabs come and buy up some (much?) Heter Mekhirah produce, and then sell it for a higher price to Haredim as "Yevul Nokhri," which then gets sold in stores as "Mehadrin."
Go figure. :-/
Problem has been out there for a while. Thank G-d Jews can laugh about such things, because it is an embarrassment.
