Quote of the Day

The next thing we'll see is Reform Jews putting tefillin on dogs and calling them up to the Torah.

  1. To make such a joke is an insult to the many animals who are reincarnations of lost souls. For example, my cat comes to the table for kiddush and havdala, and has even go into one of the local shuls!! In all seriousness, many believe (myself included), that some animals may be a gilgul neshama, so Yishai is insulting these poor souls

  2. It's also an insult to the memory of Rabbi Pinchas ben Yair's donkey.
Besides, if it's a female dog, will some loudmouth in the back ask "Why are they giving that b''tch an aliyah again?"

  3. The two above comments hopefully are jokes. Eli Yishai was exactly right. It would be a desecration of Torah. Even there if there is a possibility of gilgul neshamot, a dog is a dog. Also, do not believe that any Jewish neshama is turned into a dog in another life.

Um yes, yes they were. Sometimes the best way to deal with stupidity is humour.

  5. You know, frankly I am sick of Reform bashing, regardless of how we feel about their observance. This man is guilty of Sinat Chinam (baseless hatred) because he can be interpreted as attacking the Jews themselves, not just their observance.

Although some of the commentators are joking, the entire issue is not funny. Yes, some Jews are doing things that we don't agree with, but I don't think we need to see videos and the like about the extremes this supposedly could lead to.

  6. Sorry Sheldan, it is not funny because it is a very serious matter for the Jewish nation and you are completely wrong re this matter. It is not wrong to bash a movement that has destroyed so many Jewish souls, who have already intermarried and disappeared from the Jewish fold. Besides that, they are committing a chilul H' by making a mockery of Torah. That's the one thing that Jews cannot fiddle with, it is Divine. These reformers can do what they want, but do not call it a part of Judaism. This is not sinat chinam, but ahavat chinam by preventing many lost souls to be conned into thinking they are practicing a form of Judaism. Isn't it strange that all of a sudden they have become 'Israel' lovers but want to change it completely. Originally, they wanted nothing to do with Israel, Jerusalem, Zion or anything connected to our heritage.

    1. Sorry, Anonymous, but such "holier-than-thou" comments will not help to bring these Jews back to Judaism. Yes, I agree their observance is problematic, but comments like these attack the Jews themselves, not their observance.

These comments will only drive them further from their heritage. Is that what you want? Frankly, I don't. I don't think we can afford this, in fact. Instead of mocking them with videos, we should be reaching out and trying to persuade them to change course, instead of writing off a segment of our people. I stand by my comment.
