this might be considered a surprising reversal. Maybe even a surrender - waving the white flag. This was Lapid's calling card. He has taken a lot of heat for saying this. Many of his supporters attacked Lapid for a reversal on this position.

Lapid later released a clarification that he did not mean he is giving up on this issue, but the quote is taken out of context. Lapid explained that he said it is now in the hands of the Supreme Court and whatever the court decides will be acceptable to him.

And listening to the original video (at about the 4:50 minute mark) that is what he said in his original statement, just everyone likes to take a single sentence out of context.
