does kosher kill?
Does kosher kill?
Not generally.
That makes the headline in Behadrei Haredim a bit strange, when it reads, "Tragedy in the Heavens: He ate a kosher meal and died".
That kind of makes it seem like the kosher food was at fault for the passengers death.
Briefly, the story is a frum man and his wife, a newly married couple, were flying from Madrid to Miami and he had some sort of attack and died shortly after eating the kosher meal provided by the airline.
The food he ate might or might not have had anything to do with it. The fact that it was kosher was probably irrelevant. I do not know if they are doing an autopsy, but they will never really know without one (and maybe even with they might never find the cause).
At least the headline in the original article on YWN doesn't blame the kashrus of the food.
Maybe it was the wrong hechsher and divine punishment struck him immediately? Things don't usually work that way, but you never know.
Anyways, Baruch Dayan Haemes. It is a tragedy for the family, but Behadrei really shouldn't blame kosher food for his death. It might encourage people to reconsider eating kosher...
