female kindergarten teachers are a new invention
looks like Rav Shmuel Auerbach is making changes to the extreme, and not just regarding appearing before the IDF draft board.
Rav Auerbach instructed a boys school under his authority to relieve all female nursery school teachers (ganenet/ganenot) from their duties and replace them with male rebbes instead.
The surprised parents complained to the principal who went back to Rav Auerbach for clarification. He asked Rav Auerbach to clarify as the situation is one of very young children, even prior to learning "aleph beis" and it not being a situation of women teaching torah but just relating stories form the parsha, and the women are God-fearing..
Rav Auerbach answered definitively that they must be replaced with male rebbes as having female teachers for boys is a new reality that was never before acceptable and the influence even at such a tender young age is immeasurable.
It is a matter of hashkafa and not specific to this or that teacher, as fine as they might be.

I would hope his girl schools do not have male principals or teachers, as the influence of inter-gender teaching and mingling goes both ways...
(as an aside, I would like to see his history books to see what else is considered new and never before acceptable)

If we're going to go this route, they should shut down the Gannim completely. Until the 100 years or so, children that age would be at home all the time -- with the mother.
ReplyDelete... the past 100 years or so ...
DeleteActually, I don't like the idea that some religious girls high schools here have "rammim," (male main teachers) rather than "mechanchot," female ones. It trains the girls to be submissive to men and makes it clear that religious and academic authorities are maile only.
ReplyDeleteChildren at 3 - 5 yrs old need female nurturing figures.
ReplyDeletethat point was mentioned by the principal in his questions and Rabbi Auerbach rejected it
DeleteAurbach is barely a Rabbi, and he's nowhere close to being a child psychologist. Why would anyone listen to him on this topic?
Delete(He may know a lot of Torah. Lots of people who aren't Rabbis know a lot of Torah.)
why is he barely a rabbi? people listen to him because he is their leader. they have chosen to follow his path and study in his yeshivas and they consider him an authority
Deletedoes anyone have proof that he is actually the son of rav shlomo zalman?
ReplyDeletei reckon he's a chancer
And just yesterday, at the Shabbat table, I half-jokingly remarked to my daughter that the current idea of pushing all the girls to sem to become teachers is an invention of the past 100 years, since before that only men would be allowed to teach, especially Torah (and girls didn't really go to school anyway past learning to read)...
ReplyDeleteWell, if he wouldn't insist on men doing nothing at all, their wives wouldn't have to work.
