much of Haredi COVID numbers going unreported because they are giving private care
Mako News ran a report about a secret underground Corona-treatment operation being operated out of Mea Shearim.
Here is the video of the report, and here is a TOI article about it in English:
In general this is a good thing. They don't have any obligation to go to the hospital for treatment. If they can get good care at home, that's great. As they say, besides for helping lower to the heavy workload of the hospitals that are understaffed, they are giving personal attention at home to these sick people and that goes a long way. As long as it is working and the care they are giving is helping, I see nothing wrong with it.
That being said, there are a number of issues to be concerned about.
With no oversight, how does anyone know what is really going on? Are their numbers reliable? How do we know anything they are saying is accurate? only two died? Maybe, but maybe 5 died, or 20, or 90, or 150. How do we know?
Also, with all the claims that the mass events caused no spread and very little additional sick people, that clearly is not true - they are simply treating them privately and at home and not reporting the numbers. The real numbers are clearly far worse than reported.
At a certain point, they say, if a patient's condition gets too bad, the doctor instructs them to send the patient to the hospital. Assuming they actually do this, some of the above might not be relevant as at that point they become reported and part of the system. More than 2 might have died, but they died when in the hospital and not under the private care. If the private care is only dealing with patients that are not in such bad condition, it makes sense that not so many die.
Also, by keeping them home they are risking spreading it even further. if all this happened because they largely did not keep the rules, who is to say they are keeping the rules now and being careful about quarantine. Even if the untrained, unprofessional caregivers are doing the best they can do, and they surely are, and even if they are keeping to all safety guidelines, everybody else around may very well not be keeping to any guidelines and spreading the disease further.
Overall, this is a good thing. perhaps the model should be copied and instituted all around the country, in a more professional and supervised manner. Perhaps the medical system should institute something like this through the local kupot cholim instead of overwhelming the hospitals. In general my policy is that a hospital is no place for a sick person, but take overwhelmed and understaffed hospitals with no ability for the patients to receive visitors and personal care and attention, and the hospitals in general have become very bad places for Corona patients, as much as they try to do their best. using this model in a more professional manner could possibly do much better.
I would like to hear a response from the medical system, the Health Ministry perhaps, to this report.

and the cost is borne by?
ReplyDeletekt
probably mostly by donations, like almost everything else done in these areas by these communities..
DeleteMost of those who are hospitalized with COVID-19 are not the ones who can be cared for at home - it's only those who are seriously ill who are taken to the hospital. Those who are only mildly sick are treated either at home or at corona hotels in any case - so what this group is doing is not saving the hospitals anything.
ReplyDeletewell, they do say that some of their patients would be considered in critical condition in hospitals even though they dont consider it to be critical condition... so there might be some gap where they are still treating critical patients that have not yet been determined to be sent to the hospital.
DeleteThere are natural and other kinds of medications for even the sick patients in the hospitals but are not being allowed to be given; the same with the HCQ that is still being withheld from the public. They need the sick and need to depopulate and to make up even greater numbers, all for their wicked agenda!
DeleteThey're waiting for the vaccine to really control. Wake up!
