State to consider home care for Corona patients

Just yesterday I posted about the video report regarding the pirate treatment and care for Corona patients in Mea Shearim (and in some other places) in people's homes and not reporting anything. I suggested that perhaps the official State system should copy the model, and improve it where possible, as individual care, when possible, will be much better for the individual patient than impersonal extended care in the hospital.

Today the government raised the possibility of doing just that.

According to a report in Kikar, MK Ofer Shelach (Yesh Atid), head of the State Audit Committee, said he would raise the issue next week in the committee to consider adopting and expanding it.

According to Shelach, in the early days of Corona the health care policy was to intubate and provide oxygen like that to the patient after inducing a coma. Now the policy is different and most patients are given oxygen without intubation and without an induced coma.

Adopting this model would lessen the pressure on the hospitals by tens of percentages and relieve the system in so many ways, along with saving money, millions of shekels just in direct healthcare and billions in avoiding lockdowns, to the State.

Professor Gabi Barbosh, formerly Director of the Ministry of Health, also praised the idea today. Besides for the better quality of care, in addition to the patient having family members around, it would also be cheaper for the State.

Since the issue is being raised by Ofer Shelach, from the hated Opposition party of Yesh Atid, this will likely go nowhere fast, but the State should really consider it seriously.
