the new inane Chanukah Covid restrictions - Coronukah
With the Chanukah night lockdown/curfew blown out of the water due to technicalities, the government is finding a way to impose new regulations that will be a de facto lockdown without calling it a lockdown.
According to the new reports, the decisions have been made and will be voted on tomorrow regarding the various details of the restrictions meant to keep us safe and prevent the spread of the virus over Chanukah. And some of them are as weird and nonsensical as all previous iterations of the restrictions.
The new restrictions to be voted on include:
- commerce will shut down over Chanukah at 5:30pm until midnight.
- no being in anyone else's house from the evening hours (not sure what time specifically) - unless you live there
- no being indoors in shul from evening hours
- businesses, not including commerce, can continue to work throughout Chanukah during the evening hours as well
- during the day, until 5:30pm, none of the new restrictions will apply
Obviously the purpose of some of these restrictions is to prevent Chanukah parties with guests, tishes, Chanukah lighting ceremonies in shuls and batei medrash, etc.
So I guess if you want to make a party or get together or whatever, do it either before 5:30pm or after midnight. And if you are looking for something to do over Chanukah, you can go hang out by day in any of the crowded malls that recently opened, just be out of there by 5:30pm.
This year Chanukah will be called Coronuka.
