Proposed law: driving on Shabbos
I would have expected one of several other MKs to submit such a law proposal, but it has come from MK Ofir Kasif (Joint Arab List). The Joint Arab List is a conglomeration of parties, one of which is Chadah, a mixed Jewish and Arab party, and Kasif serves as a [Jewish] Member of Knesset from that faction.
MK Kasif is proposing a law that would make it illegal for anyone to use a government-issued car, ie ministers and deputy ministers, on Shabbos and Jewish holidays.
No, Ofir Kasif is not religious or Haredi. While some might like this proposal, the motivation is actually something they won't like. Kasif wants to tie their use of their government-issued cars to the availability of public transportation on Shabbos and Jewish holidays (which has been raised before). In other words, as long as public transportation is not available for Doron in Tel Aviv or Beer Sheva to go visit his grandmother or to go tot he beach or movies on Shabbos, Minister Yair or Minister Avigdor should not be able to drive in his public-funded automobile either.

To me it makes sense that the two should be linked. Or maybe not linked, but either prohibited or allowed equally.
Also, if it is considered wrong for Ministers to fly on Shabbos or conduct government business (that is not pikuach nefesh) or issue press releases, etc, they should not be able to drive in their government-issued cars either

This proposal makes sense on a few levels. I would expand it though to make any personal use of the car against the rules. I don't see why tax money should benefit a government worker beyond his/her job. A private company can incentify its workers by raising its expenses not so in public offices. We pay for that....
