JPix Jewish and Israeli Photo Carnival - #22 - the Cut Short by the War Edition

It is that time of the month again! The monthly Jpix carnival is here! This is edition #22, and I am going to call it the "Cut Short by the War Edition" - it has far fewer posts submitted than previous editions, and I suspect part of the reason might be because of the Gaza War that began 10 days ago.

Anyway, Frumhouse is the manager of the JPix Carnival so let out a hoot for Meechoel (spelled that way so it sounds Jewish) Landon's virtual daughter and let's all thank her for the burdensome task of managing a carnival and finding hosts.

And now, on to the posts!

Rahel finds secret keys and passion fruit....

Batya went to visit Herodian and see the location they discovered containing the remains of the ancient ruler himself....

Sarah is looking to the future, realizing that today, and its issues, are fleeting.

A good way to do that, is to go away on vacation and see the sea.

Cosmic X found a cat that, to me, looks like it is about to commit suicide...

Batya went to see an exhibit on Polish Jewry from before World War II..

muse shares some Hanukkah scenes...

Leora shares some beautiful pictures from her trip to the Dead Sea and Ein Gedi...

Keli Ata posted a series of really beautiful pictures of nature... to honor an Israeli friend.

Proud Mommy of 4 posted some Hanukkah pictures... makes you want to extend Hanukkah just a bit longer....

erev sukkos images

Some Erev Sukkos images...

The "merkaz mischari" - shopping area was jampacked today with people buying last minute items, along with coming out for the "shuk 4 minim"..

Here you can see a small portion of the crowds....
people checking the tips of the lulavs looking for good quality merchandise...

a merchants table with his wares, esrogim, laid out for all to see.... my boys with a few large "Yemenite Esrogim"..they are much bigger than our ashkenazy ones..

This is the table of the guy selling the Yemenite esrogim. he was very friendly. He gave me a slice of Esrog. They arevery sweet, in contrast to our ashkenazy esrogim.. you can see the large ones in front. The even mroe interesting one is the orange one. He told me the gemara mentions an orange esrog, but I do not remember it. I will have to look for it..

These are the esrogim being sold on the table from Kfar Chabad. They are Chabad Lubavitch esrogim. They originate from an esrog that was used by the Lubavitcher Rebbe. They took his esrog (I guess over the course of a number of years) and planted new orchards of esrogim.

This other merchant was selling particularly bumpy esrogim...

Chag Sameach!

Before I begin let me start off with saying thanks to Mr. Bagel who is the founder and manager of the J pix carnival.

And now, after the brief word for our sponsor, on to the carnival.

David also took advantage of his being in Israel to visit the Beit Hamikdash. I must have missed some big new stories while I was on vacation!!!

Dave Bender gives us a pic of Jerusalem at night in time for Elul..

David is really seeing all the sights! He went to Chevron and saw the memorial for Shalhevet Pass, the baby who was murdered in her baby carriage by an Arab terrorist.

A Simple Jew presents his black and white picture of the week...of Dogwood in July.

me-ander went to New York!! I thought she only stays on Shiloh... hmmmmmm

Simply Jews caught this cool looking critter on his camera...

Batya went to the Museum of Jewish Heritage while she was in NY and she also went to Manhattan...

A Simple Jew has another b&w pic of the week...

Only in Israel

Are you familiar with those signs on the backs of trucks and delivery vans that say "How am I driving? Call now at 123-4567"?

Well, here is a new variation of that sign....

For the Hebrew challenged among us, it says, "How am I behaving? Call now at 050-767204 (this must be an old picture because about 2 years ago Israel changed over the cellular system to use 10-digit phone numbers..)

jpix 8 - Eretz Yisrael edition

Spring is in the air. There were a number of posts with pictures showing the beauty of spring. I think the largest percentage of posts were on that topic, though I was too lazy to actually count it. I was going to call this the Spring Edition because of those posts. I then decided that the Eretz Yisrael posts win out, as Eretz Yisrael topics are always more important... so I called this the Eretz Yisrael edition.. enjoy the posts - all of them, the eretz yisrael posts, the spring posts and the rest of them....

Eretz Yisrael
Cosmic X's son went to Meron on Lag B'Omer and is making me hungry.

muse went walking instead of swimming.

muse then takes us on tour of Nachla'ot, Jerusalem in honor of Yom Yerushalayim.

ari kinsberg remembers his visit to Kever Yosef, from the time one could go without having to wait for a 2 am bus...

and tnspr569 tells us about his trip with me to the Shomron, trying to get into Kever Yosef.

Ben-Yehudah points out what he sees as the latest Nissan advertisement.

Jacob has 585 pictures (yes, 585. that was not a typo) of the Jerusalem Day Parade and the Jerusalem Flag March.

Cosmic X continues showing us the progress of the new Jerusalem Calatrava Bridge.

Evan took a hike Above Tsfat and then shows us Tsfatas well. He also shows us Yom Yerushalayim.
