Beach Volleyball Comes To The Beaches of Jerusalem
Jerusalem is a landlocked city. Yet, somehow, beach volleyball is coming to the beaches of Jerusalem.
Not quite sure how Jerusalem has a beach? Not quite sure where the beach is?
Well, the beach is located, for 2 days only, today and tomorrow, right outside the Old City near Sultan's Pool at Gan Chutzot HaYotzer. Sand was imported to Jerusalem, a volleyball court was constructed on top of the sand, and the international tournament is under way. (source: mynet)
Maybe next year they will bring water as well and make it into a real beach rather than just a sandbox.

I saw beach volleyball in the center of Milan a few years ago. Same idea.
ReplyDeleteThey actually did this last year as well at Liberty Bell Park in Jerusalem.
ReplyDeletePutting a few layers of beach-sand over a solid basketball court is not a comfortable surface to play volleyball on its different than a real beach you can feel the hardness of the floor under the sand.
but hay its a nice try by the municipality to do something different.
Rafi you have copied the story from this guy! http://lifeinisrael.blogspot.com/2010/05/beach-in-jerusalem.html
ReplyDeletehaha! I remembered vaguely a similar story from back when, but was too lazy to search for it
