Haredim campaigning to boycott Dati lulav and esrog merchants..

A new cherem is in town.. this one is technically a retaliatory cherem.. Some Haredim have started a campaign in Haredi communities around Israel to ban the Dati Leumi. With a motif adopted from the motif of the Habayit Hayehudi election campaign, Haredi pashkevils have gone up in many towns calling for a ban from purchasing Lulav and Esrog sets from Dati Leumi - voters and supporters of Habayit Hayehudi.

The signs says "Something new is beginning.. this erev sukkos, we will all be mehadrin with our four species.. We will not buy 4 species from our enemies, from voters of Habayit Hayehudi... they chase us down, they have joined up with a group of wicked people to cut down the tree of life, the world of Torah... we will only buy from those who love Torah, not from those who hate it..

While I am against bans and boycotts, this one is understandable, even if pointless... It is a retaliatory boycott, in return for the boycott on the haredi parties from being part of the government, and then budget cut after budget cut and law after law targeting the Haredi community. You boycott others, you are at risk of being boycotted as well.

It is as pointless and hypocritical as the BDS movement, as most people will buy whatever is priced well and competitively, and removing such a large amount of suppliers form the market will just cause prices to rise among the haredi merchants. Supply and demand. And if they are going to boycott Dati businessmen, why just for sukkos - boycott the farmers, the businessmen, the bankers, the doctors, the inventors, the manufacturers, the barbers, plumbers, pizza stores, lawyers, etc..  Besides for the collective punishment - just because someone wears a kippa sruga does not mean he voted for Habayit Hayehudi, but how else will someone be able to boycott a specific merchant?

  4. NEVER CONSIDERED MYSELF ANY KIND OF EDUCATED PERSON BUT I COULD HAVE SWORN THAT THERE IS A SPECIFIC MITZVAH IN THE TORAH AGAINST TAKING REVENGE. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE AFRAID OF WHAT THEY THINK BAYIT YEHUDI CAN DO TO THEM (FORGOT WHO RUNS THE UNIVERSE, FOLKS?) BUT THE RIBONO SHEL OLAM, NOT SO MUCH. AT THIS TIME, YET.

  5. There was no "boycott on the haredi parties from being part of the government". There was simply no shared values to build a government.

  6. This is absolutely the dumbest thing these people can do - and I'm just as upset with BY as the rest of them. I'm assuming this doesn't have the public backing.

  7. We are in a time of year where we are supposed to focus on emulating Hashem. The books are open and Hashem is sitting in judgment of his people. Who ever is behind this campaign is just being super frum Mehadrin l'Mehadrin. It is always better to judge and condemn others for how Hashem is going to look at their Din then to focus on improving oneself.

My apartment currently has 4 iPhones. I didn't vote Bayit Yehudi but my shul did endorse them. How come last week I had people collecting at my door at 9:30 at night. Perhaps they should form a Vaad that confirms homes are frum enough to collect money from.

  9. No different than the people (perhaps some of them are Dati Leumi) who don't buy Eida Chareids food for ideological reasons.

  10. Maybe they should boycott Tirat Tzvi meat. It comes from a dati leumi kibbutz. But no, in fact Eidah Chareidit send mashgichim there, Toldot Aharon ones, who actually in the kibbutz over Shabbat and participate in the davening, with the prayer for the state too
