no worries.... we'll pay the fine
This evening both MK Mike Levi and Minister Gila Gamliel apologized for breaking the Corona rules set by the government for the lockdown. initially it was thought Miki Levi had broken the rules right before the Sukkos holiday but now it is known that he also broke the rules by hosting his children for Rosh Hashana.
In addition to the apologies, and in addition to Levi resigning his membership in the Corona Cabinet, Gamliel and Levi both said of course they would pay the fines due to them for their violations.
Is that something that needs to be said? Until the public outcry and them saying it as part of their apologies, were they going to not pay the fines? Were they going to use their immunity to avoid the fines? I am not sure why this paying of the fines is going to placate anyone, and why it seems be offered as a token as if they didn't really need to do it but will do it anyway, sort of to set an example...
I actually find the addition of that point to their apologies to be an insult to the public.

I'm sure they are both well off enough that the fines are small change to them.

ReplyDeleteOh, definitely. It's nothing to them *and* they avoid it.
