Rav Meir Kahana, formerly a candidate a for Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel and the selection committee's selection who was then abandoned, wrote a post of his sentiments and thoughts and blessings to the winners (only one so far) and his desire to work together, etc.

This is an interesting turn of events.

The race for the elections of new Chief Rabbis is heating up. We have heard about the various candidates for Sefardic Chief Rabbi - between the seeming frontrunners Rabbi Dovid Yosef, Rabbi Yehuda Deri, and some others though Shas has not yet announced which is their official candidate), while the party-supported candidate for the Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi had yet to be named.

Amazing. According to the Palestine Papers leaked by Al Jazeera, Tzippi Livni offered that all Arabs, including Israeli Arabs, be transferred to the Palestinian State under PA rule, except for some minor numbers of refugees that would be allowed into Israel and some Israeli Arabs that would be allowed to remain in Israel, and the PA basically accepted that condition, recognizing that Israel could not survive if it granted Arabs the right to return to Israel.

That was basically the agenda Rabbi Meier Kahane supported. Yet he was a racist for saying it.

The Channel 10 news report about Avigdor Lieberman's connections to the now defunct Kach movement....

Everyone in the left is making a big deal about the revelation that Avigdor Lieberman was at one time a member of Kach - Rabbi Kahane's movement/party that was declared illegal due to racism.

Fist of all, they do not understand that the bigger a deal they make of him, the more popular he becomes. I would advise Avigdor Lieberman to stop wasting his money on campaigning - the left is doing all the work for him. Go to the Meretz website, and all you see are pictures of Avigdor Lieberman. Listen to Labor or Meretz talk and all you hear is Lieberman this and Lieberman that.

Second, who cares if he was or was not a member of Kach? I can see them using it to paint him as an extremist (do they really need that anyway? they have been doing that just fine without the latest revelation), but beyond that? Why is it interesting? Labor is trying to have it investigated to see if he really was a member or not. Why? Is there a law against former Kach'niks serving in government? The law, as far as I know, only says Kach is illegal, and it is illegal to use the name and imagery of Kach. As long as Lieberman is only a former member, why should there be any legal problem with it?

What difference does it make?

Niqnaq pointed out this piece of irony he picked out of the Talkbacks on the Haaretz article reviewing the Olmert scandal and the testimony given today by Moshe (Morris) Talansky.

Talkback #9 writes, "Morris Talansky is the brother of Shoshana Talansky, best friend of Rabbi Meir Kahane’s wife Libby, from the 50s. Some say that if Olmert is brought down directly because of the brother of R. Kahane’s friend, it would see justice partially served, being that Olmert himself, as Likud lawyer, was directly responsible for having Kahane banned from the 1988 elections, because Likud were fearful that his Kach party was going to take 12 Knesset seats from them.."

If that ain't irony, I don't know what is...

R. Kahane speaking in the Student Union at Brandeis University Oct 31^st , 1990 six days before his murder. The Rabbi was officially invited by a student group. Although the University claims that it values freedom of expression, they tried to prevent him from speaking by charging outrageous security fees, and high rental fees for a small hall. The rabbi compared this to the poll tax where they tried to prevent blacks from voting in the south. In any event, he decided to walk on campus without the approval of the administration. There about 1000 students who came to hear him.

I am not/wasn't a talmid or follower of Rav Kahane's but he was a man worth learning from and he was a man who spoke the truth as he saw it, not just what was convenient... even if others disagreed with him.
