shameless
I dont know many of the personalities on the Left and involved with Achim Laneshek or Koach Kaplan (obviously I have become familiar with some of the main names, but not most of the people involved there), so I dont know who was behind or who was actively involved in tonight's protest in Mea Shearim.
It is a shame they are letting extremists take over the movement and do things that do not advance their goals in any way and will only hinder them. There was absolutely no purpose and nothing to gain by the protest they held tonight in Mea Shearim and all it was good for was to generate some "action" and violence and increase hatred among the two sides for each other.
I have no problem with protests (legal, police sanctioned) even during war. That's part of living in a democracy. Tonight's was just shameful and purposeless.

we are all losers
Netanyahu is a loser. Netanyahu blinked first. Netanyahu miscalculated, multiple times. Netanyahu is slipping. We beat Netanyahu.
People are saying all sorts of things about Netanyahu and how the Left beat Netanyahu (in this round). That is the story of the past few days.
But that isnt the story.
The Left may have beaten Netanyahu this time, but did they win the battle and lose the war? Was the war ever even winnable when they went to battle with the weapons they used?
Will anyone ever really have control of the State, no matter who is running the country? If the Left should ever take the reigns back, the rightists will protest any significant legislation by threatening to not serve Reserve duty, to encourage pulling money and investment out of Israel, they'll block traffic and bring the masses out. Whoever becomes Prime Minister form the Right and tries to pass significant legislation will meet with more protests from the Left with businesses threatening to leave the country reservists refusing to serve, protests of masses, and all the rest.
How do we move forward from here, after all these lines were crossed? Netanyahu might have lost the battle, but I worry Israel has lost the war. Netanyahu might be the loser right now, but I worry that at the end of the day the tactics used mean we all have lost.

The State of Bnei Braq
There is a big fight going on about tomorrow's protest. The protest group is planning to disrupt traffic all over the place but mroe specifically they are going to be holding a large protest in Bnei Braq, ostensibly because the Haredi community, via its political leadership, is extremely supportive of the judicial reform (and behind the scenes pushing for it).
Some people are upset about that. In Bnei Braq there are two different approaches formulating and debating how to best respond - some say let's greet the protesters with drinks and cakes, or cholent and other delicacies for a Thursday night protest, along with smiles and warm greetings and handing out candles for Shabbos and other things.. Others are upset and are considering this an attack on Bnei Braq, an attack on Haredim, inappropriate and should be met with dirty diapers, rocks, rotten food thrown at them and counter demonstrations. I am reading it online and people are very passionate about this and very upset and really considering themselves as being under attack and saying to leave Bnei Braq out of it.
While I am not quite sure the efficacy of protesting specifically in Bnei Braq, I do not see why anyone should think Bnei Braq is inappropriate for protests like this and out of bounds. Bnei Braq is part of the country just like any other city, village and town. They get involved in politics in a big way they cant just wash their hands and say they have nothing to do with it. The Bnei Braq residents are nto at fault for anything, but they are as much part of the country and system as are the residents of Tel Aviv, Petach Tikva, Jerusalem, Bet Shemesh and every other town. If people want to protest in Bnei Braq, no Bnei Braq resident needs to take it personally as an attack. Bnei Braq is not an autonomous entity and need not be treated any differently than any other city. Just because it has a unique demographic doesn't mean it is out of bounds.
People refer to Tel Aviv as "The State of Tel Aviv" in a derogatory way as if it is treated and has a personality of a completely separate entity from the rest of Israel. The truth is Bnei Braq is not so different and is treated by many as "The State of Bnei Braq".

the violence has gone too far
The violence has gone way too far.
Yesterday's protests were punctuated by a group of protestors who discovered that Sara Netanyahu was visiting her hair salon and the converged on the location and tightened their circle of protest around the salon and didnt let her leave. Eventually the police extricated her after a long standoff.
That is extreme violence, even though not a hair on her head was touched other than by her barber.
The thing is that it has been a an escalation over the past couple of years, and maybe even longer. The incessant cycles of elections kept seeing, or bringing, increasingly raised tones and increasing levels of divisiveness and tension. In the last government, the one led by Lapid and Bennett, is when it got really bad. Right wing protesters angry at the formation of a government led by anyone other than Bibi attacked Zeev Elkins's wife and children outside their house. They protested outside of Nir Orbach's home for lengthy periods of time. they had MKs chased out of shuls and they had the children of MKs thrown out of schools. This violence is horrible, but this form of attacks was brought about and legitimized by the same people condemning it loudly today. This has gone way too far. I hope some people come to their senses soon.

calling Ben Gvir the supporter of terror
The city of Tel Aviv just experienced a terror attack. A pretty bad one, if they were to be rated in any way.
MK Itamar Ben Gvir is a provocative personality. When I was a bit younger I loved to see him and others like him light things up. Today less so, though I do like the political chaos he creates (as I have said before, I am somewhat a fan of political chaos). I think being intentionally provocative does not help matters in any way, not even in the way he intends (eg to scare the Palestinians, to display ownership, to bring us to our dream of a Greater Israel or anything like that).
Last night MK Ben Gvir went to Tel Aviv to make his stand against terror.
To counter Ben Gvir's presence a group of leftists arranged a protest. Protestors called for Ben Gvir to leave the city, saying he was not welcome. They called him a terror supporter and blaming him for burning the area, for causing an escalation, for not letting it calm down.
לקראת בואו של @itamarbengvir לזירת הפיגוע בתל אביב: מפגיני שמאל קוראים לחבר הכנסת לצאת מהעיר pic.twitter.com/ggV1FQm2b5
— רן שמעוני Ran Shimoni (@ran_shimoni) April 9, 2022
While Ben Gvir is unnecessarily provocative and not helpful to probably any situation, he is far from a terrorist or terrorist supporter. The people they support are the terrorists themselves. Right after a terror attack in the heart of Tel Aviv they are protesting against the Occupation and against Jewish leaders (albeit from the Right and one they are opposed to) instead of protesting against terror and the people who sent and assisted the terrorist?
I have no problem with protests and demonstrations for peace and all that but, as they say, "time and place". There is a time and a place for everything. As opposed to Ben Gvir as they may be, immediately after a terror attack is not the time or place for protesting against Ben Gvir and calling him a terrorist or terrorist supporter.
I am sure not everyone in Tel Aviv thinks Ben Gvir is the terrorist these people are calling him but these protestors have it backwards.

In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve
the news last night had a story about left-wing protesters getting more aggressive in their protests outside the private areas (home, shul, etc) of Attorney General Avihai Mandelblit. It seems they made a bit of a ruckus and Mandelblit had to be removed by his security detail. The story includes the point that because of this he was unable to say kaddish for his mother after kiddush levana, as he had to be removed quickly.
French philosopher Joseph De Maistre said "In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve".
Just two weeks ago Left-wing politicians refused to offset votes in the Knesset for Right-wing MKs that had to be absent due to deaths in their families. Angry politicians on the Right called their actions inhumane.
protests are legitimate. Why they think vulgar protests by the private areas of Mandelblit will get him to do what they want him to (regarding his influence over the investigations into PM Benjamin Netanyahu), is beyond me. It is clear though that these left-wing protesters really did get the leaders they deserve.

Hypocritical Condemning and Commending Of Eisner
This whole situation with Shalom Eisner, the IDF officer who was caught on camera smashing a Danish pro-Palestinian activist in the face with his rifle, has been confounding.
I don't know how anyone, no matter what else one might know about him and no matter how well one understands the high pressured situation he was in and is even willing to give him some leeway because of it, could come out in support of him. On the other hand, Eisner is also not deserving of being a scapegoat, considering the situation he was in and the violence of the activists prior to that altercation. The IDF also must bear some brunt of the blame, considering they sent a team of soldiers not trained in riot control to control a riot that should have been dealt with by the border police (Maga"v).
That being said, there is a lot of hypocrisy going around. This article in Makor Rishon, about something said by Eisner in shul, proves it.
According to the article, Eisner said in shul that he does not understand why this was turned into such a big deal.. "last year there was a rally of right wing activists in the area for which I was responsible, and then too the situation turned violent between the security forces and the protesters. Then I received a commendation and full support from the army for my behavior... for the violence then nobody said anything.. they just let it pass. "
As I said last week, the right wing should not be so quick to support Eisner, just because he beat a leftist. That is stupidity. They are quickly forgetting that he has acted against them in the past. In the comments of that post people asked for sources that such a claim is true. Well, now Eisner has said it himself that he beat right wing activists in previous protests. And the quick condemnation of the IDF is also hypocrisy, if they are going to condemn for violent put-downs of leftists but commend for violent put-downs of rightists.
There is something very wrong with what happened here, from all perspectives.

Enough of the Hypocrisy (video)
Enough of the Hypocrisy
I am not going to criticize Lieutenant General Shalom Eisner for the vicious hit on the Danish pro-Palestinian activist that was caught on film and went viral. I am not going to criticize him because the video clip is just a moment in time. Sure, it caught Eisner hitting the Danish activist, but it does not show anything else, whatever had preceded the hit.
I also am not going to defend Eisner. I don't know that what he did was justified. The hit looks vicious, and while he claims the activist had been violent before the hit, we don't see that or know that definitely.
Eisner is innocent until proven guilty, so in that regard I will let the process take its course without commenting on that.
What I will comment on is the hypocrisy of the attack on Eisner. None of these people who claim to care so much about human rights say "boo" when the police and soldiers are sent in to beat right wing activists. Take a look at this video, which expresses that sentiment, which has been created in the wake of the Eisner incident. From what I read, Eisner himself has advanced his military standing on the backs of settlers and right wing activists, beating, lying in court to keep them in detention, etc.

harish: Demanding But Refusing Housing
While the haredi community should perhaps be doing a cheshbon hanefesh as to why nobody wants them living nearby them, it is horrible that wherever they have a chance to move to the local people protest against the haredim and chase them away.
the Israeli public praises itself on it's being a liberal community, and often it really is. The Israeli public is far more accepting of differences than many other places, offering rights and equality to groups that in many places are way behind, such as rights to certain minorities, rights to homosexuals and the like. Yet when it comes to the haredim, the most enlightened and liberal Israelis go into a black hole of discrimination and lack of acceptance.
Even in a place like Harish, a city that is being planned to be built specifically for the haredi community in the Menashe Region near Wadi Ara, the leftists and Arabs are joining hands to protest and say the haredim should not be brought to their area.
So, in a city that is populated by a general public populace, one might say that bringing hundreds or thousands of haredim will upset the balance of the city, will change the dynamics, will disturb the status quo, will cause friction in raising religious fights, they wont be paying arnona, they'll demand the roads being closed on Shabbos, etc. One can debate whether those are worthy arguments or not, but the concerns can be legitimate.
Yet in a place where the city is a new city designed specifically for haredim, there is no justifiable reason to protest against it. Last night up north, there was such a large protest against the plans to build the area of Harish for the haredi community.
Why are the liberal Israelis who defend the rights of Arabs not defending the rights of the haredim? Why are they protesting against? They need places to live.
Adderaba, just the opposite, if we don't allow the construction of areas for the haredi public, they will continue taking over neighborhoods and cities where they are currently in smaller numbers. That will chase out the general public, both to take advantage of rising prices as demand grows by the haredi "invaders", and because they don't want to live near the new haredi neighbors. And we will be witness to more of the horrible fighting that happens when these situations occur, such as in Bet Shemesh, in Kiryat HaYovel of Jerusalem and other similar areas. They should be supporitng the constructing of Harish and other such cities.
I would even add that it is hypocritical to be out demanding soutions to the housing crisis, with the protest already running about 5 or 6 weeks, while then refusing to allow housing to be built for people seriously suffering from lack of housing. Building such cities and neighborhoods, and they are going to have to be built both for haredim and for general public in order to solve the housing crisis, is absolutely necessary. You cannot demand increased construction and cheaper housing and then protest the plans that provide it.

Flying In To Delegitimize Israel
I am not sure why leftists who try to delegitimize Israel think that Israel must allow them to do whatever they want. they think that if Israel takes any steps to prepare for a delegitimization campaign it must mean israel is weak, Israel is afraid, Israel has what to hide, Israel must be guilty.
the most famous of their plans recently has been sending flotillas to Gaza. When Israel has thwarted, or prepared to thwart, the flotillas, the leftists who supported the flotillas criticized Israel suggesting that Israel is guilty/hiding something/weak or else they would just let the flotillas in.
the latest campaign is going to be an "invasion" on Israel tomorrow. because the last flotilla kind of fell apart, they decided to fly a bunch of activists in to Israel. They would descend upon Israel and then go to the West Bank and visit Palestinians there, and create provocations.
personally I dont see what the big deal is. Let them fly in, let them visit people in the West Bank (they didnt say Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas), let them spend money that Israel will collect taxes on. Who cares?
However, Israel decided to prepare and prevent this from happening as much as they can, with the knowledge that they will not be able to stop everybody from getting in. The response of the leftists involved is that Israel must be scared, Israel must be weak, otherwise they would just let us in.
That is not true. Every country restricts what visitors they let in. Some do it by forcing visas, and rejecting visa applications from people they dont want to let in. Other times, when a visa cannot be rejected, such as when coming from a country from which no visa is required, other methods must be used - turning people back at the airport, for example.
When a country feels it is being targeted in a campaign of delegitimization, that country has a right, even a responsibility to act. That action is not indicative of being weak, or being guilty.
That action is indicative of being a strong sovereign nation.

defending the enemy rather than ourselves
The media are jumping all over the "settler riots" on Shabbos by a group of people from Yitzhar who went into an Arab village and attacked a bunch of people. The left wing activists have come out in defense of the poor afflicted palestinians and condemning the settlers from Yitzhar and calling for the security forces to take a heavier hand with them.
According to the articles, all they did was enter the village, break some windows, spray some graffiti, and flip a car. They did not personally attack the body of any specific Arab resident.
Why did they do this? While the residents of Yitzhar are known as being tough and do not take anything sitting down, it also seems out of place to just randomly riot one day. So why did they do this?
If you read the various articles in the mainstream media, you wil notice that they give attention to the cause by writing about 2 lines worth of information. A Palestinian came into their village, torched a home, which was thankfully empty, stabbed a 9 year old kid (thankfully he only sustained light injuries), and tried to torch another home. He then ran back into that Arab village that was later attacked by the residents of Yitzhar.
Are the left wing activists going out defending the poor settlers who were attacked by the Palestinians? Is the media blasting the PA and the Arab residents for starting the mess, or only the Yitzhar residents for retaliating?
It is not a matter of condoning their behavior, but when they have been attacked, they simply retaliated. This is what we call in Israel "Ko-ach Harta'a".
"Ko-ach Harta'a" was a big word arounf the time of the Lebanon War. Do we have it or do we not? Have we lost it and have we re-achieved it?
Ko-ach Harta'a is the power of deterrence. The current political leadership, along with the governments of the recent past, has done nothing but destroy our power of deterrence. Our Arab neighbors are no longer afraid to attack us, because they know we will not, we cannot retaliate. Our government and our activists will prosecute anybody who lifts a hand against the Arabs, while nothing will be done to the Arabs who started the incident.
This is a small scale example. The larger scale example is the situation of Israel visa vie its neighbors and whether or not they are scared to start with us or do they know that we will always make goodwill gestures and refrain from retaliating?
It is reprehensible that our people and our media are out there defending the Palestinians who start the incidents against the jews. Stop defending them and defend our own people once in a while. Especially when the Palestinians started the violence.
(and note the lack of "left wing Palestinians" blasting the act of a violent Palestinian attacking the poor Jews in a nearby village)

things that make you go hmmmmm
This blurb is on the Breaking News of Haaretz:

Peretz: Incident of soldiers beating left-wing activists will be investigated (Haaretz)
It seems some left-wing protestors were trying to block roads near Hebron and disturb checkpoints. The soldiers tried to break things up and clear the area and things got violent, as they often do in these situations. Some left-wingers must have gotten their heads busted.
So Amir Peretz announces he has to investigate the incident.
Funny, but I do not remember him, or any other minister, saying any such thing such as a need for an investigation any of the multiple times right wing activists or settlers get beaten by soldiers or police. I do not remember hearing any such statement from either Peretz or Dichter (Minister of Internal Security) when the students got (and are still getting) their heads beaten in during their protests this past week.
Only left-wing protests cause an uproar when they get violent? What is different about left-wing protests than right-wing protests?
