Quote of the Day

The IDF Chief of General Staff sent the troops out for a major training session on the southern border and said it is necessary and worthwhile even to the price of 1000 infected soldiers. From our perspective, this is the same thing. Learning Torah is urgent just as preparing for war is. This is a value that is important to us. I understand why the secular don't understand this, but we are not martyrs trying to infect the entire country with Corona. We just want to learn Torah

-- Yankie Kanievsky, grandson and right hand man of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, in rare interview with Yediot (behind a paywall)

  2. Army exercises, by definition, have to have a lot of soldiers working together. That's what an army *is*.

Torah learning- imagine this!- can be done in small groups, one-on-one, or even on one's own. It can be done over the phone or internet.

Yankie, by the way, is a real piece of work who abuses his grandfather for monetary gain. I don't think we have to consider a single thing he has to say.

    1. Rafi, Perhaps you can edit out the absolute lashon hora of the last paragraph.

    2. Or perhaps he should leave it in, as it's public knowledge and a public service to tell people.

    3. just to mention, even if I wanted to I do not have the ability to edit comments. I do have the ability to delete them but I never do (except for spam). Not even when someone commented calling me Hitler. There might be some situations in which I would delete a comment, but I havent come up with any rules of when that might be.

  3. "We just want to learn Torah"
..and have mass weddings. And lag b'omer bonfires. And daven as usual without any limitations. And tishim. And Meron. And Uman. And hakafot. And hakafot shniyot. And and and...
As soon as we saw non-compliance in areas other than Torah study, it became clear that it's not just about Torah study. Had mass weddings, tishim been curtailed, had תפילה been done under restrictions, had the Yeshivot complied with capsules & masks (and not lip service where the staff & RY are free to infect the boys who are otherwise safely quarantine), there would be no need to shutter the Yeshivot. (Some Yeshivot did manage to remain virus free.) Telz-Stone, a community whose Charedi credentials are unimpeachable managed- why not the rest of the Charedi world?
Instead of double-talk, Yankie should explain how his zeide got infected.
