Sikrikim Looking For Funds In The USA
Two leaders of the Sikrikim left Israel for the United States today to collect money for their continued efforts in Meah Shearim and Bet Shemesh.
Their names are Avraham Hirschman and Shalom Baruch Rost/Rust.
Assuming you do not support the activities of the sikrikim/thugs, do not give them money. Even if they say they are collecting for their kollel, for hachnassat kallah, a major surgery someone needs or whatever project they say they are collecting for. They are collecting to fund their future activities.

More Craziness From the Burqa Ladies
2 more stories of the Burqa Ladies have hit the airwaves. It is almost hard to believe that these people can be so crazy, but when you see how they dress and think it is the right way, you realize they can be.
1 story is that at a wedding in Jerusalem the other day, the kallah, a member of the burqa club, refused to put her hand out in order to receive the ring. She refused on the insistence that doing so is a breach in the rules of tzniyus. It took some time, but supposedly the officiating rav, someone associated with the Eida, pressured her enough that she gave in and did it. (this was initially reported in forums by someone supposedly present, but the administrator removed the post. so it is only alleged)
With the Eida finally starting to fight against the phenomenon, seeing as how many of those involved are somehow coming from the Eida ranks or otherwise associated with the Eida, perhaps they need to not just talk about how it needs to be stoppe×’, but maybe they should actually put some real social pressure on, such as, say, not agree to perform weddings for them? Or other similar bans - no life cycle events such as bris, or others.
The second story is stranger. A woman, a burqa lady, fighting with her husband about the schooling of the children, took her three kids and disappeared. He wanted the kids to be educated in a normal haredi school, but she refused (I would guess that she wanted to only send them to the school set up by the burqa people). This led to regular fighting, and after he shut off the electricity in the apartment where she was (she wasn't living with him?), she took the three kids and ran away, going into hiding.
The mother is due to give birth to child #4 in the near future, and considering the way they go it seems she will refuse to go to a hospital. the Eida has contacted the hospitals and requested they be informed if she shows up. They are threatening to take away her kids, and are working together with the social workers to resolve this. (source: Bechadrei)

Ahmed Tibi To Celebrate Yahrtzeit of Yasser Arafat
It's Yasser Arafat's yahrtzeit. I don't know the exact date it is celebrated, as he died November 11, 2004 but I think the Arabic date fluctuates, and the rallies in his honor are taking place today.
MK Ahmed Tibi is one of the scheduled speakers at the main rally in Ramallah later today.
By law it is illegal for Israelis to enter into Palestinian Authority controlled territory deemed as Area A, which Ramallah is. Some members of Knesset, upset at Tibi going to speak at Arafat's yahrtzeit rally where he will spew anti-Israel hatred and accuse Israel of apartheid policies, have appealed to the Defense Minister to not approve Tibi's trip to Ramallah. Complaints have also been filed with the Knesset ethics committee.
MK Danny Danon, as he has said before, said that the appropriate place for Tibi is in the parliament of Ramallah, rather than in the parliament of Israel.

Social Protest To Call For Ban On Electric Company
The Israel Electric Company is set to raise the prices of electricity. Again.
Yesterday, the CEO of the Electric Company, Eli Glickman, announced that the IEC cannot meet the costs of fuel and they must raise electricity rates 30-40%. Immediately. The board of the IEC seems to have approved it already, if I understand correctly, and they are requesting approval from the government to implement the rate hike. He accused the government of being afraid to allow the IEC to raise rates because of the recent wave of social protests against rising prices. (source: Globes)
Well, it looks like Glickman is putting the government, and the IEC, on a collision course. The people behind the recent "cottage cheese protest" that successfully encouraged the dairy companies to reduce prices of cottage cheese and other basic cheeses by promoting a ban among the general public have now set their sights on the next target - the Israel Electric Corporation, considering the recent announcement.
The people behind the protest announced that they are starting a protest movement against the IEC and they are calling on the public to rebel against them.
I am not quite sure how one rebels against the electric company, as our lives are run by electricity, be it our refrigerators, computers, hair dryers, hot water heaters, heaters, lights, stereos, mp3 players and every other amenity we have grown accustomed to by and in the world of 2011. Am I going to stop using electricity for a month in protest? Refraining from buying cottage cheese and gvina levana was not really that great a sacrifice, but electricity? How do we protest this?
The idea is that they want people to cancel their outstanding payment orders, direct payments from the bank or credit card companies, and then not pay upcoming bills. This would, short-term, harm the companies cash flow and make them take notice. (source: Ladaat)

Selling Baby Naming In Yated Neeman
When someone pointed out to me the classified section of this week's free Yated Neeman, I got a real kick out of it, Who knew that Yated classifieds could be so funny!!?? When I read it I was not sure if I was reading Yated Neeman or eBay! They need to change the name of the newspaper, though I am not sure if eNeeman or Yated Bay is better..
If you can't make out the Hebrew, basically someone is trying to sell the rights to name his baby. It doesn't say how much it costs, so I am assuming it up for bidding. It says "Respected family interested in giving a name to a baby after a good person for pay".
Nice of them to call themselves "respected", or a more accurate translation might be "important". Unfortunately they restrict to "named after a good person", which gives them a lot of leeway to veto any selection. They are the arbiter of who is considered a "good person".
This is something I expect to see on eBay, not in the Yated.

If Not For Ahmadinejad...If Not For The Ayatollahs
I'd like to say if not for Ahmadinejad, we might be ok with the Iranian people, and them with us. Unfortunately the hostility has been around for longer than Ahmadinejad has.. Maybe "if not for the Ayatollahs..." is more accurate.
JPost has the story of a doctor in Iran who has a patient with a rare genetic condition during pregnancy and needed an immediate consult on the matter. She had read an article in a medical journal written by a Israeli doctor on this exact condition, and she decided to contact him. Despite her being an iranian in iran, and he being an Israeli in Israel, she sent him an email:
Dr. Adi Weissbuch of the unit for at-risk pregnancies at the Rehovot hospital was recently contacted with urgency via e-mail by a female doctor who identified herself as “NN” from an Iranian-university hospital.
She had read a comprehensive article published in an international medical journal in which Weissbuch wrote about a rare genetic complication of pregnancy and supplied his e-mail address at the bottom.
Consultation was urgent, the Iranian doctor wrote, because according to Islamic law, abortion is forbidden after the 18th week of pregnancy, and her patient was already in her 16th week. She sent the Kaplan physician a copy of lab results and asked his opinion.
Weissbuch wrote back that on the basis of the data, there was very little chance that the woman would have a healthy baby and that delivering the baby would endanger her life. The Rehovot doctor had discussed a very similar case in his article.
After receiving the information, the Iranian doctor advised the woman to undergo an abortion immediately, and she did so.
Weissbuch said that he had received numerous requests for medical help via email from various parts of the world, but that this was the first time one had come from Iran.
“For me as a doctor, caring for patients is not dependent on nationality, gender or religion. We are morally bound to give proper treatment and advice to whoever needs it. From my side, of course all of my correspondence with the Iranian physician mentioned ‘The State of Israel’ under my full name, but she was not dissuaded by this fact,” he said.
