Chumus Turns It Into A Very Special Occasion
When you are having a special evening with family and friends, is it any specific food product that was served that generally turns the evening into a very special occasion? Was the even dull until the punch came out, or until the chips and salsa appeared? Was it the chumus dip that did the trick?
Strauss and Pepsico are joining together in a venture to bring chumus to Mexico. The chumus in Mexico will have a local twist to it, with chipotle and red pepper flavors.
The director of Obela, the joint company formed by Strauss and Pepsico, said, "There is a significant growth opportunity in Mexico in the dips and spreads category, beginning with current hummus consumers. Our goal is to make sure that at least one fifth of households in Mexico enjoy and share our products with family and friends, thus turning any moment into a very special occasion." (source: Globes)
Chumus is great, but is that what turns a nice evening into a very special occasion? Is what I just asked borderline heresy?

Kind of a funny question, actually. Obviously, על טעם וריח אין להתווכח; but humus is a mixed topic in our house. On one hand, IF we have it around, we'll eat it during the week. But oy va voy if my wife doesn't make some for Shabbat. Even though it is a common food, a Shabbat meal would really be lacking if we didn't have her fresh humus. So yes - if we are preparing for guests at the table (at least for Shabbat or Yom Tov), then humus had better be part of the plan. With a good סחוג, of course. The best is Yedai's from Bnei Ayish.
