Kvish 6: No More Paying For Traffic On Kvish 6
The ministerial committee for new laws today passed a law proposal regarding the toll road Kvish 6.
Kvish 6 was the first toll road in Israel, and while it started off slow, eventually people showed they are willing to pay in order to get faster to where they are going. Since Kvish 6 has been so successful, Israel has developed a few other toll roads as well - the Carmel Mountain tunnels and the Fast Lane to Tel Aviv.
The real frustration sets in when you get onto the toll road hoping to avoid traffic and get up north or down south quickly, only to find yourself sitting in traffic that can sometimes be worse than the traffic on the regular highway. Then, not only do you find yourself sitting in traffic that you were trying to avoid, but you are paying for it as well!
The committee today passed a proposal by which, if passed, drivers who get on the toll road, Kvish 6, and find themselves sitting in traffic, driving below a certain speed, will be exempt from paying the toll fee.
Now that the proposal was passed by the ministerial committee, it moves to the Knesset where it will be prepared for reading and further voting. What remains to be determined is below what speed will be considered the red line for the toll cutoff.

They need to make a law for everything in this country. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteThe next step would be, perhaps, that to use common sense you'd need a license from the government. :-) Well, that is the problem - too much legislation and misuse of court. If authority was based on a broad and flexible set of rules, deriving from natural common sense, then things would be simpler and the Minister could sign a bill without having to recur to legislation.
DeleteAnd the flip side will be a fine for going too fast of course. Or do they do that already?
ReplyDeleteThey already do it. Now they have scooters riding on the roads looking through the windshields to see what the driver is doing.
DeleteIf I drive on Kvish 6 below this minimum speed, even if there aren't any traffic jams, can I use the road for free?
ReplyDeleteI doubt it Catriel. i am sure that whatever limits are set, it will be dependent on the traffic jams causing the speeds..
ReplyDeletemaybe what you could do is drive slow enough to cause a traffic jam
