A New Tzniyus Pashkevil

It's about time. A pashkevil about tzniyus, but one not like any you have seen before.. this one forbids tight clothing and says that those who wear them are sinners and cause others to sin...

Wait. What do you mean this one is like none you have seen before? that is the basis for almost every tzniyus pashkevil ever pasted up on a wall! Nothing new and unique about that!

What's new about this pashkevil's message is that it is directed at men.

If the women were starting to feel picked on, everything is their fault, they are always the ones who have to hide themselves or change their style, now they can sit back and relax while it's the mens turn to be picked on for tzniyus issues!

The pashkevil being signed by sefardic rabbonim seems to indicate that the problem is one that afflicts the sefardi boys and men, and not necessarily the ashkenazi. Either it is a matter of style, or else the ashkenazi rabbonim just haven't caught up yet. Though it is interesting that the Sefardi rabbonim are basing half (one of two reasons) of their statement on the Rama.

The pashkevil says that recently the modesty of mens dress also needs strengthening and repair... men are obligated by the Torah to dress modestly in wide and modest clothing. It is a Torah prohibition to dress in pants that are tight against the body as the goyim wear.. and wearing tight pants is prohibited because of that which is said by the Rama... those who dress so are sinners and cause others to sin....

LOL, maybe they're kind of saying that Ashkenazy men are fatter and don't fit well into skinny jeans like Sefardi men do :-)

  2. After reading the pashkevil - twice, to make sure I fully understood its tenor - I am more and more convinced that rabbanim hacharedim are making complete and utter fools of themselves.

Not even in George Orwell's novel "1984" was there such extreme mind control and manipulation of the human soul. No wonder so many people are going "off the derech" if this latest example of tomfoolery is anything to go by.

  3. I believe it. I've seen many sephardi charedim very stylishly dressed in "skinny" shirts and pants. White and black, mind you, but I can see where this pashkevil is coming from.

  4. skinny pants is common, but I've never seen any type of skinny pants (on haredim) that would be considered a problem of sinning or causing others to sin. they might be tight, but they dont show anything out of the ordinary...

    1. You might have to ask some women ... because you might not be seeing what they are seeing.

    2. Bingo. Just like plenty of frum women wear clothes that cover everything, just very tightly. Well fitting pants and a shirt can show off many assets, as the case may be.

  5. they must be referring to those tight fila and diadora t-shirts the guys are buying in stores like where I work. OK, the arabs buy out the smalls, so there's nothing left for the 14 year old boys who have outgrown size 18.

    1. I think this is referring to specifically sephardi charedi dress. What would final and diadora t-shirts have to do with that?

  6. You don't mention where this was physically posted. Or is it just a good joke to pass around the internet?

    1. according to the articles on both bechadrei and Kikar, they were seen posted n "reekuzim harediim" haredi areas... dont know more specifics than that. I have not driven through RBS B in the past couple of days, so i dont know if its there or not.

  7. I totally believe this. For the past few years in the world of fashion, the styles have been becoming slimmer and you cannot really find baggier pants and shirts like in the past. No Sephardi yeshiva boy is wearing spandex, but the styles are much more slimmer and stylish then in the past and in some cases it really stands out as being too hip.
