Quotes Of The Day

MK Moshe Gafni (UTJ) is always great at supplying qotds, and in his speech at the haredi pre-election conference he supplied us with a few mouthfuls:

Yair Lapid is very well qualified to be the work-mule of Bibi Netanyahu..
To those haredim intending to vote for the secular Likud party, I have one sentence to say to you: You don't have any idea of the seven levels of Hell we went through from the Likud. Right now it seems as if Netanyahu will put together the next coalition, but whoever knows Bibi knows that by him what is convenient takes precedence over gratitude.
[SHAS] talks about discrimination? I have been working for the past month and a half to get a girl from Elad into seminary, but they refuse to agree to take her because they already took in all the daughters of the leaders of SHAS. There is no room for Sephardic girls in the schools and seminaries of the Ashkenazim because the spots are filled up by the children of the leaders of SHAS.
The representatives of UTJ were never suspected or indicted of crimes. ever. They don't worry about themselves, but for the public. We invest money and energy the whole year long, but in the end the people vote for SHAS. Why?

  1. It sounds like a very desirable school. In that case I also assume all the UTJ leaders got their kids in. Is Gafni claiming that there can be no spaces for the hamon am once the leaders get their kids in. If not, is there a special quota for sfardim such that there can be no space for ordinary kids, once the leaders get theirs.

    1. there often is a quota, but it is hard to believe there are so many girls from the leaders of Shas that there isnt room for anyone else...

  2. Shas gets things done. UTJ has no scandals because they have no importance. No one could give a darn about them. Gafne also expect us to believe that because a group of about 20-30 leaders that may have some kids in ashkenzi schools, that it gives the hundreds of ashkenazi schools permission to discriminate and deny everyone else.

In reality, possibly the only reason they don't reject the Shas' leader's daughters, is because they are scared of the political clout that Shas holds. Personally, I know of some higher ups daughters that were treated wrongly AFTER they were accepted to the schools.

    2. Yes. rejecting them from the school without reason is harder for them to do than it is to fabricate accusations against a girl (after she is in school, and after they weren't "racist") that turn out not being true (by their own admission). True story.

  3. I find this amusing juxtaposed to the article in Hebrew press this week that Litzman wanted to replace his Audi A6 (that was in an accident) with a luxury BMW. Nothing for themselves

  4. It's a simple marketing failure. The definition of marketing is to supply the needs of the consumer and UTJ does not. There is no room for tzadikkim nistarim in politics. The people want to see their leaders active, in the headlines, and in the field. Politics is as much work as it is show because it is very important for the people to see that you are doing something. This builds confidence in the political system and is not merely showing off.

Shas leaders become ministers and ministers get more airtime. UTJ members of Knesset are not allowed to be ministers (might show some legitimacy for the Zionists, rachmana leitzlan) so they merely seem like the poodles - assistant ministers. The people who currently vote for UTJ are automatic voters, but the people who could vote for UTJ (isn't there a growing number of Haredim?) don't because they see UTJ not 'doing anything.'
