Quote of the Day

the ADL and Jewish federation were about to issue a statement “to encourage and promote the Zionist idea of Jewish self-defense, of fighting back, of fighting our enemies, which happens to be contrary to our tradition

-- Rabbi Dovid Feldman, explaining why he instructed Joseph Gluck to reject a $20,000 award offered for his role in thwarting the anti-semitic attack in a shul in Monsey and his help in apprehending the perpetrator of the attack. Gluck threw a table tat the attacked during the attack, and he also noted the licence plate of the attacker's car, helping the police locate him relatively quickly

He wants to stand on principle as an anti-Zionist, that is his business. Good for him, being willing to forgo $20k for his ideals. But, as Yoni pointed out, the irony of him fighting back against an anti-semitic attack on a shul and its members saying he won't take an award because the organizations giving it promote the idea of Jewish self defense and fighting back and that is contrary to tradition is rich

  1. I don't know if you can really call it standing on principle, when he still collected the $20k.

  2. the 20k he collected was from others. if he didnt know the money would be given to him form other people, then it is still standing on principle. I dont know if he knew in advance or not. if he did, you are right

    1. Where does it say he got it?

In any event, he wouldn't have gotten it if not for the original offer in any case.

    3. Well, that's really disgusting.

  3. I'm guessing this Feldman never heard of the חשמונאים or בר כוכבה. And he seems ignorant of portions of דברים.

  4. Truth be it, it's better never to give to the Federation and their cohorts, nor to take from them. They call themselves a Jewish organization (they are the establishment) but they usually always worry for and care for our enemies more than they do for Jewish causes. Most orthodox Americans do know this. This is an aside from the 'zionist' reasons given above.
