Desecrate Shabbos to run away

There was an emergency conference held by a group of rabbonim and Admorim regarding the situation with the Draft Law for the Haredi community. Rav Yitzchak Zilbershtein, one of the leading poskim of the generation, participated in this conference yesterday.

I dont know or care much about what went on there and who said what, but Rav Zilbershtein did say something very interesting that I came across.

Rav Zilbershtein related that he had heard form his rebbi Rav Yechezkal Abramski. He says the psak Rav Abramski said was shocking and Rav Abramski had told him to publicize it but then Rav Abramski himself publicized it.

According to Rav Zilbershtein, Rav Abramski had paskened that there is a decree to join the army but it is very not appropriate. The halacha is that if we cannot work it out with the army and avoid the service then there is a mitzva upon each person to leave Israel and make every effort possible to not live here!

Rav Zilbershtein says that he said to Rav Abramski that he is shocked to hear that. Rav Abramski basically said what today would be converted to "hold my beer"... you think that is shocking? wait until you hear what I am about to say! Not only should people leave Israel but they should even be mechalel shabbos to run away from Israel if necessary!
source: Hamechadesh

That is shocking.

My [funny] response to that is that if one is already going to be mechalel shabbos one can also join the army and be mechalel shabbos!

  1. This is very terrible. The lack of Achdus will push us apart. But maybe deport any “Gadol” who damages the state. It’s terrible to hear that. Have they learned nothing from the meraglim?

Learned nothing from the meraglim? They are the meraglim.

    2. Problem is most of the Yeshiva world in the USA thinks like that. It’s crazy that they think the state is a given, and that we can’t loose it. The Europeans, Canada and the Arabs see this stuff (you think they don’t read these posts or the Israeli press releases about this stuff) and they are happy. I asked my Shul’s rav, a 100% Chaim Berliner if he wants the state to disappear. Nice of a guy as he is, he couldn’t give me a straight answer. Ideology is more dangerous than bullets.

    3. The very existence of the State of Israel poses an existential theological problem for charedim. Indeed, before 1948 the Agudah actually declared, as a statement of fact, that there would not be a Jewish state, period. And then...there was.

To take it a step further, even allowing for some miraculous arrival of a Mashiach, his job will be made all the easier by what Zionism has done for the past 150 or so years. He won't have to set up a fire department, or an army, or a sanitation department, or a million other things. That validates Zionism, no?

So yes, the only honest answer your Chaim Berliner can give is that it all needs to disappear and start again from scratch, presumably under a resurrected Yitzchak Hutner.

In Derishas Tzion, Rav Tzvi Hirsch Kalischer dissects all the prophetic predictions and determined quite cleaerly that there will be a phased redemption. First some Jews will return and build up the land. Why? It's suprisingly obvious - when Moshiach comes, all Jews will return home. If you don't have buildings, infrastructure, electricity, water, etc. what will you do with all of them?
Any "rabbi" who can't answer "Yes! Israel is a blessing! I wish it was more halakhic but it's still a great gift!" is putting ideology before truth and that's not Judaism.

    1) Where are they going to go?
    2) Don't let the door hit their arses on the way out.
