the irony of PM Netanyahu

The news and developments of the recent days, or maybe weeks, brought out a couple issues that I find ironic.

Everyone says how PM Benjamin Netanyahu is the worlds leading statesman, with nobody having the diplomatic capabilities that he has, definitely not in Israel but also on the world stage. Yet through the rubble and mud of Gaza, justified as it is, Netanyahu has succeeded in turning just about the entire world against us. He still has some of America (and fewer every day) and Argentina behind him, but not much else.

One of Netanyahu's main life goals was to prevent a Palestinian State from being formed, Bar Ilan speech notwithstanding. He has worked very hard over the past 3 decades to prevent it, including moves like building up Hamas to prevent the PA from having too strong of a leadership position among the Palestinians (this strategy eventually turned on him when Hamas became a group of powerful monsters). I find it ironic that Netanyahu himself is going to be responsible for the world recognition of the Palestinian State for running this war with no real consistent strategy or goals and getting mired down into a deteriorating situation with partners pushing him to continue seemingly endlessly. The only goals the world hears about are the goals stated by his partners Smotritch and Ben Gvir (and their ministers) to clean out Gaza, to resettle Jewish communities in Gaza, to stop humanitarian aid, and the like, and the world considers that to be ethnic cleansing and genocidal. And because of all that more and more countries, important ones, are saying they are going to recognize a Palestinian State in the very near future.

Some of you are not going to like this and will call me a Leftist, but this is the current reality, like it or not.

Thank you Prime Minister. Good job.

You're not a lefist but you're not seeing the context.
Israel is only virtuous in the eyes of the world when it's losing. Recall how, in the 1990's, Israeli diplomats were suddenly the toast of the town after Oslo was signed but as soon as Bibii became prime minister as started pushing back against suicide bombings, they were persona non grata again.
In this war, the world supported Israel until Israel actually started to do anything. There was never a chance that the allies other than the US would stick by us the minute Israel went on the offensive. Defending yourself as the knife is on your neck? Fine, but the minute you turn the tables? Disproportionate! Bibi hasn't turned the world against Israel. Israel winning the war has turned the war against Israel.

  2. I know they are all antisemites and Israel can do no wrong and they would criticize us no matter what. Despite all that, the situation has gotten pretty bad. He used up all the capital he ever had. In this world you cant live alone. Looks like Israel will have to for a while. Who knows - maybe he will convince France and England to back down

Lots the capital he had? Again, he never had any capital. My father, a"h, used to say that the world hates Israel because they love Jewish funerals, especially the ones for Jewish victims of their hate. Israel prevents so many of those so they hate it.
The only reason Macron and the rest ever showed any sympathy was because Jews were tortured, raped and murdered. The minute we started fighting back it was "Well hang on, you might be going too far..."
As for England, France and now Canada, all have built themselves an escape hatch - a set of conditions the Arabs will never agree to and that puts them in a position of saying out loud "We except Israel to abide by this agreement we've forced on everyone but the Arabs can ignore it if they want."

  3. Once again you're letting your Bibi-hate get the better of you. Did you know that the vast majority of the world's countries, including some very large and powerful ones, recognized "Palestine" years and years ago? Bibi has nothing to do with that. A few more "enlightened" countries doing so won't make a lick of difference as to whether such a state actually *exists* or not, which of course it doesn't, mostly thanks to...Bibi.

In fact, the more they get "recognized," the less likely they'll come into existence. The Palestinians are so used to expecting the world to do everything for them that they (not the PA, not Hamas) haven't even *declared independence*. They expect, I dunno, "the world" to invade Israel and give them their state on a silver platter, I guess. And the more "the world" "recognizes" them the more emboldened and wrongly hopeful- and thus the lazier- they get.

    Good job, Bibi.

In November 1988, Arafat, y"sh, declared an independent Palestinian state. He was a bit fuzzy on the borders but dozens of countries and the UN immediately recognized the declaration. So that's been out there for a while.
The question has always been: And what then? Until now, nothing. Since the Arabs rejected the 1947 partition agreement and every single agreement since then, it's not like they can say "We agreed on borders so everyone come help us get the Israelis off our land!" They have no borders. They can't claim the whole territory because the League of Nations gave it to the Jews already. So what next?
Probably nothing because France's statement (not England, mind you) specifically talks about a demilitarized state, no Hamas anywhere to be seen and recognition of Israel as a Jewish state to be lived with in peace. The PLO will walk away from that.
But what if France gets really nervous? Restive Muslim savages in the streets and all, right? What if someone decides "Well we got away with it in Kosovo so why not here?"
Now that's me being paranoid. If NATO tried it, the US itself would push back and NATO is nothing without the US. But what if...

    2. so if this is already the situation for a long time, why are we getting upset about France and the UK and Canada recognizing them now? what is going to change by this?

    3. Because now it encourages Hamas. It can be considered an achievement of Hamas.

    4. Garnel: Obviously in 1988, with him in Tunisia, it was a fantasy. They've never done it since 1993, which is what's important.

Rafi: I don't know, maybe they can threaten Israel more for attacking a "real" country. But come on, they attack Israel non-stop now for attacking a "fake" one. If anything, Israel could declare war on a "real" country and wipe it out. (Except of course they'll be condemned.)

Thomas: Everything encourages these people. Egypt still thinks it won the Yom Kippur War.

    5. and Iran thinks it won the recent 12 day war against Israel
do they really think it or is it just their way of saving face?
