And speaking of tunnels....

Israel has just discovered and exposed the largest of the Hamas tunnels.. at least so far (ie they might at some point find one even bigger, who knows!)..

I was more impressed  with the decision of the IDF to install a mehudar mezuza (!!!) at the entrance to the Hezbollah tunnel. Maybe that will help the Defense Minister.

The IDF announced that the 6th - the last and final - tunnel has been discovered from Lebanon entering Israel, and has been demolished. Operation Northern Shield is now concluded.

This particular tunnel was massive. It was much deeper than the others, at a depth of 55 meters. It was 800 meters long. This tunnel had railroad tracks laid to move heavy equipment in to Israel, along with electricity, lighting, and stairs. More details can be found at Israel Hayom and Times of Israel.

Thank God and the IDF for this latest discovery. May they have continued success in the defense of Israel and the Jews. My only question is why the IDF is calling this the last tunnel. This can only be the last tunnel until they find or don't find the next one. They probably thought the previously discovered tunnel - the fifth tunnel - was the last on as well, though I dont remember them  saying ti was the last one - I do remember PM Netanyahu explaining that after finding and demolishing that tunnel, the threat/crisis is now behind us and we can now go to new elections. It seems more hopeful - they, and I, hope it is the last tunnel and that there are no more. Hopefully it is the last one and the threat is now really behind us.

The time has come for an iron fist and a policy of zero infiltrations of terrorists into Israel..

Rav Shriki davens nears the border and the Hamas tunnels collapse.. I don't know if his prayers are the reason for it or not, but at least somebody is being proactive!

 

Ever wonder why so many people (in Israel) complain about water damage, leaks, mold and the like in their homes?

We now have a clear answer.

It is because our homes are built by the same people that are building the tunnels from Gaza into Israel.

Hamas agent?

According to The Jewish Press, the entire Gaza tunnel network is collapsing. Yesterday two Hamas terrorists were killed when a tunnel collapsed. Last week at least 7 were killed in a tunnel collapse during the rains. Between the rains and the Egyptians flooding tunnels, it seems the tunnel network is collapsing.

If the tunnels can't withstand a few days of rain we shouldn't be surprised when our homes built by the same people can't keep a little water out..

And, speaking of the Gaza tunnels... yesterday was Groundhog Day. Does anybody know if any Hamas terrorists came out of a tunnel and saw their shadows? Obviously the two mentioned above did not... Are we heading into spring or are we destined for more winter?

I was relatively unimpressed with Netanyahu's statement, warning actually, at a conference with ambassadors yesterday.

Netanyahu warned:

If we are attacked from the tunnels in the Gaza Strip we will act with very great strength against Hamas, and with much greater strength even than that of Operation Protective Edge,

We have yet to deal that death blow to Hamas or Gaza. However badly we hit them in Operation Protective Edge, they don't seem to have been affected all that much. They are still living their lives, they are rebuilding their infrastructure, they seem relatively unintimidated by Israel, they are rebuilding their network of tunnels crossing Israel's border. They use the images of a destroyed Gaza to their benefit in fundraising and sympathy-raising, so it is to their benefit if Israel hits them hard.

So, threatening Hamas with a reminder of protective Edge, is not any great shakes. They lived through Protective Edge and that did not scare them enough to stop preparing for the next round.

The question is, what is Israel doing now to destroy the terror tunnels? Why does Hamas seem to continue to develop their tunnel network with the weather being their greatest impediment - where is Israel in this story? Why is Netanyahu's threat only "if we are attacked from the tunnels" - is he ok with the tunnels themselves, and the potential they hold, just not if they are actually put to use?

if you thought the tunnels were confined to the area of Gaza and just over the border nearby, it is also happening up north. within Israel.

this is like straight out of a movie.

Prison wardens, acting on intelligence gathered, searched the cell of a group of 8 prisoners, all members of Islamic Jihad serving long prison sentences, and discovered that the prisoners had been working on tunneling out of the prison!

The tunnel discovered was already 2.5 meters deep and 6 meters long!
