Obama on nuclear weapons

I am curious, if Barak Obama is saying truthfully, as he just said, that he is pushing for no country in the world to hold nuclear weapons, is he volunteering for the United States to set the example and be the first to rid themselves of nuclear weapons, or is he insisting that every other country do so first?

Who will be the first to get rid of the weapons and who will be the last?

  1. This is the main point which bothered you in his utopian speech?

  2. nothing bothered me about his speech. he said nothing relevant, nothing that will have any affect, and nothing sensational. that point just came to me while I was listening. unfortunately, I was not able to listen to the whole thing, but listened on and off as I was able to.

he wants the whole world to change according to his worldview, and each country should ignore their history and start loving each other.

Very nice. And what happens next week when he the euphoria of his speech wears off.

  3. I did notice he is suddenly talking alot about his muslim history (even though he said he is a christian) and his muslim family and experience as a kid. Things he refused to talk about half a year ago.

  4. All together now:

    "Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too..."

  5. Rafi, you're half a week behind the blogosphere.

Oh, and if dividing Jerusalem is no big deal to you, well........

  6. did he say that in the speech? I missed that part if he said it.

I know the blogosphere has written about it, but he said it again in the speech now. I generally try not to talk about Obama and the US in general, and I therefore did not get involved in that discussion, but getting into this aspect of his background during a speech in the Middle East to worldwide Muslims is more open to my commenting...

  7. Speech text transcript

".....But privately, many Muslims recognize that Israel will not go away. Likewise, many Israelis recognize the need for a Palestinian state. It is time for us to act on what everyone knows to be true.

Too many tears have flowed. Too much blood has been shed. All of us have a responsibility to work for the day when the mothers of Israelis and Palestinians can see their children grow up without fear; when the Holy Land of three great faiths is the place of peace that God intended it to be; when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together as in the story of Israel, when Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed (peace be upon them) joined in prayer."

  8. Shy, that's not a proof. Is he suggesting that there should also be a Christian city-state in another section of Jerusalem? I think not. It may be that he really does think that J-m should be divided, but this is not a proof.

  9. Obama also directly compared the Jews suffeing under the holocaust to the Arabs suffering for failing to annihilate Israel.

    He also said:

"At the same time, Israelis must acknowledge that just as Israel's right to exist cannot be denied, neither can Palestine's. The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements. This construction violates previous agreements and undermines efforts to achieve peace. It is time for these settlements to stop."

Strange enough, my word verification string to post this is "rebarry".

  10. Published earlier today, before the speech was given:

Obama Will Not Make a Difference.

  11. Shy - this is precisely why I have not commented on all the wild specualtion in the past 2-3 weeks about Obama being so anti-Israel in things he has said recently, between netanyahu's visit, Barak's visit, and Obama's preparation for todays speech.
It is all speculation. No reporter has heard him say anything that he is being accused of.

he may in fact believe it all and really think Jerusalem should be divided. But I have not heard him say it, so I so far see no real difference between him or any of his predecessors on the Israel issues.

  12. No president has ever supported the settlement activity here and no president will ever initiate a peace process that does not include giving up territories.
The problem for us is that the world in general will only remember his demand for concessions from us and conveniently forget his demands from the Arabs such as democratization, womens rights etc.
In Israel the left will put pressure on the government for concessions whereas in the Arab and Palestinians nobody will put pressure on their leaders.
The Arabs like Obama speech because they know they can get away without giving up anything.

  13. WHat the *&*%$& does he mean by "when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together " ?

If anybody is preventing anyhone from mingling peacefully it is the arabs who refuse to let Jews on Har HaBayis (w/o getting into the debate over wether we should or not alz halocho).

He can only mean that somehow if Jews are ruling over Jerusalem even if they allow all faiths to freely visit there getchkas - this is problematic. This is a detriment to security and a lasting home. This prevents peace.

IOW, Jewish soverignty must be removed - what else can he mean?
If you are new at listening to Obama you might not have realized that he does not say anything concrete explicitly - neither do many po;liticans - just hints and nuance.

WHat else can the above lines mean?

The 1938 German and Polish Jews still don't.

  15. What he means is, "Let's just all learn to get along nicely."
    Nothing more, nothing less.
Today's speech convinced me to stop trying to read any subtlety or hidden messages into Obama's words.
The man has the maturity of a teenager, and he really, honestly thinks that he is going to get everyone to beat their swords into ploughshares by just speaking nicely to them.
There's nothing sinister about Obama's plan. He's not conniving; he's just clueless and hopelessly out of his depth.
The emperor has no clothes, but no one is willing to admit it.

  17. What he means is, "Let's just all learn to get along nicely."

Well, if you were right he might be only little bit less dangerous. But "Let's all" also implies that both sides are responsible.

    This is ridiculous here.

Why do you assume he is so stupid?

Do you have any support for this wild contention. THat the US President is like Peter Sellers in Being THere.

  18. Anon 18:15 - Thanks, good analogy about Peter Sellers in "Being There". What a prescient movie!

Why I say this - the giveaway is this very topic, "Obama on nuclear weapons". He sounds like an 18-year-old at a campus "Ban the Bomb" protest. Once you frame Obama in this light, his entire speech reads perfectly and consistently. Go ahead and reread his speech and tell me that couldn't have come from the mouth of a well-meaning and ignorant teenager.

  19. Yes, but a 18 old in a 46 year old body ir whatever it is would not becomes POTUS. The movie was cute to a point but I couldn't even watch the whole thing it was so loony tunes.

If the the 2 logical choices are a) Obama does not like Israel and America as a non-Muslim state as well (he has made many statements in the past and has policies that support this theory (remeber J Wright?), and as he is trumpeting now - he is of Muslim heritage and Muslim upbringing.) And He is a brilliant manipulator and liar who is gifted in many ways as a politician - politicians unfortunately do a lot of maniping and lying .

    b) he is simply Chauncey as POTUS, Editor of Harvard Law Rieview et.c et.c etc.

I think the most logical choice is #1.

  20. it seems he has volunteered the us to be one of the first

    http://israelmatzav.blogspot.com/2009/05/obama-cancels-americas-nuclear-program.html

    ReplyDelete
  21. while that is something, that is far from being the first to dismantle nuclear weapons so the world will be nuclear weapons free. he is canceling a project of development of next generation weapons. He is not dismantling any current weapons, nor perhaps other research and development projects there might be.
