Har HaBayit, Closed to Jews

The following was sent out on an email list I am a member of regarding issues related to Har HaBayit. The discussion was about the arrangements of when the Har is open for Jews (of course only open to visit, not for prayer). The following is a very concise description of the arrangements.

To translate:
The arrangements are very clear
On Muslim holidays - the Har is closed to Jews
on Jewish holidays - the Har is closed to Jews
on Friday the Muslim holy day - the Har is closed to Jews.
On Shabbos, the holy day for Jews - the Har is closed to Jews.

Very simple.

I would add to that list that even on days when it is open to Jews they frequently close it at the last minute unannounced.

Who was it who thought we control Har HaBayit?

  1. Define Jewish holidays, because I went up during Pesach.

  2. I also went up Pesach (last year I think, or maybe two years ago). Sometimes they close it. for example, this past 9 av they closed it.

  3. Ah, so you admit that 9 av is a holiday and not a day of mourning!
