Quote of the Day

For the first time UTJ has grown to 7 mandates by the merit of all the people voting for the party, including those who are drafted into the army and integrate into the workplace. With this vote they all have said - and not just the yeshiva students - that they want the yeshiva students to continue to be able to learn in yeshiva because there is nobody who will protect the Jewish nation if there is nobody learning Torah. With this message we come to Lapid and say to him that if he does not come down from the tree he will find himself out of the coalition.
[If the government tries to pass a draft law for haredim] there will be a disengagement from the country , and the process that has begun of haredim integrating into the army and the workplace will be reversed. Lapid's goal will not be achieved, but the exact opposite will happen and the haredi public will go back to closing itself up. Once and for all we will show that they cannot force their anti-religious policy on the haredi public. And, if we survived Pharoah, and Meretz with Shulamit Aloni and Tommy Lapid, we will survive Yair Lapid as well.

-- Menachem Kulitz, haredi journalist (he runs the media operation called Kav Itonut Haredit)

  1. During the campaign, they tried to present their platform as being not just for chareidim, and now their saying that only chareidim voted for them. Huh.

  2. you might be referring to Shas, who did target non-haredi voters in their campaigning. Kulitz is part of UTJ. UTJ did not seriously target non-haredi voters, and while I am sure some non-haredi voters voted UTJ, the numbers have never been anything more than insignificant.

  3. " there is nobody who will protect the Jewish nation if there is nobody learning Torah."

Why, if charedim go to the army, would there be nobody learning Torah?

  4. they are continuing to use the scare-tactics with claims that the yeshivas will be emptied and shut down. they think people dont realize that those post-army and pre-army will still be able to learn, by their own choosing, all day, half day or as much/little as they want.

  5. "and Meretz with Shulamit Aloni and Tommy Lapid, we will survive Yair Lapid as well."
What a joke -- first of all, Shulamit Aloni was kosher enough for fellow Haredi party Sha$ which joined a gov't with Aloni as Education Minister (in exchange for ... you guessed it ... money !!!). Second of all, UTJ should know if you want to play you have to pay -- they were HAPPY to support a land give-away to Hamas in 2005 (which they supported together with Tommy Lapid BTW) - this tremendously strengthened Hamas and INCREASED THE NEED FOR A STANDING ARMY. so don't whine if Israeli society requires you to join this army.
