inhumane behavior in the Knesset

So, in Aryeh Deri's attempt to muster a majority in yesterday's scheduled vote on the minimarket law, with the opposition MKs refusing to offset the two important missing votes, Deri admits he did something heinous, though he does not call it that.

Deri was desperately short on votes, so he looked into the possibility of making Yehuda Glick come to the Knesset to vote on the bill - while sitting shiva, just a few short hours after the funeral of his wife. Deri spoke to the rabbi of Glick's community (Otniel) and other rabbis to see what he could do to get Glick out. As well, he had people contact Glick, it seems, during the funeral, to try to persuade him to go to the Knesset afterwards for the vote.

To remind you, nothing worked out so the coalition postponed the vote on this law proposal.

Today Deri apologized for having possibly hurt Glick in is attempts to get enough votes for the law.

Ironically, Aryeh Deir and other coalition MKs called the behavior of the opposition MKs "inhumane" for refusing to offset Glick's vote. It turns out, this inhumane behavior is standard for the Knesset and Deri and other coalition MKs suffer from prioritizing his agenda over consideration for people's personal affairs and issues and inhumane behavior is just part of the process for them all.

I guess we should have known that already about Aryeh Deri when he took advantage of people's love for, and connection to, Rav Ovadia Yosef and portrayed himself as crying over the terrible loss by rubbing an onion over his eyes.

It is all just par for the course. The pot calling the kettle black.

  1. In his apology he never said what answer he got from the Rabbi of Otniel. My Rosh Yeshiva would probably have used the word 'jerk' but I feel something harsher is appropriate in this situation. It would not surprise me if the answers comes out in the coming days to keep this story in the headlines.

  2. We already knew that BALC wasn't high on his list of priorities. So he's an amazingly disgusting jerk on top of it, Not a surprise.

  3. I am no fan of Deri's, but it seems to me that the opposition MKs were more inhumane. Offsets are a normal parliamentary procedure, and when an MK just lost his wife, I would think that it would be a normal courtesy.

    1. agreed, but when a persno just buried his wife it is a normal courtesy to let hmi mourn and not try to get him to come play politics

  4. Wow Rafi writing trash - Yes, he pretended to care about Rav Ovadia - Rafi can see this through his Ruach HaCrap as usual

    1. not sure what your point is. I am sure he cared about rav ovadia, but I am sure that has nothing to do with his politics, and at that moment he was just taking advantage of his audience.

    2. My point is you are saying that Aryh Deri is a faker by saying that he pretended to cry about R' Ovadia. And, as usual, you couldnt give the slightest damn about Halacha like MOtzai Shem Ra or Lashon Hora

  5. I don't see why you're getting upset. You make it seem as if Deri was doing this for some personal benefit at Glick's expense. It seems much more realistic to think that Deri views this law as a rare opportunity to reduce a massive amount of chillul shabbat and in such a case perhaps even an avel needs to help if he can.
