Quote of the Day
You can't cancel the Haredi community because right now there is a problem with too much reserve duty or financial difficulty. I did not force the Religious Zionists to become Haredim, they should not force me to become not Haredi....Clearly it is uncomfortable in relation to people who have gone out to reserve duty for hundreds of days time after time. We get hit over the head about this but we really do not have any way to help with this issue..
-- MK Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ)
I dont know what he should have said, but saying this isnt going to garner any sympathy for the Haredi position ....

calm down, stop being so angry
Some people always look angry. It is just the way they look. Maybe they have a nearly permanent scowl, maybe it is the way they contort their face when they talk. Yair Lapid is an example of that to me - he seems to always look angry. Yaakov Asher always seems to look angry to me as well. Some people look angry, and some people take it further and act angry, and talk very aggressive and violently. Yitzchak Pindrus often looks angry, or on the verge of anger, but he seems to be extreme with his anger and his approach to things he doesnt like.
Way back when Pindrus said he would take a D9 bulldozer and bulldoze the Supreme Court. In an interview now with Channel 12 Pindrus said "The most dangerous thing for the State of Israel, more than ISIS and Hezbollah is the" LGBTQ+ community. If it were up to me, I would prevent not just the pride march but also the whole movement."
That is a bad thing for a government member to say in a liberal democracy. So bad that Netanyahu had to denounce it saying that what Pindrus said is not acceptable and the government headed by PM Netanyahu is committed to safeguarding the freedom of the individual and protecting the rights of minorities
Pindrus needs to calm down a bit, stop being so angry.

Quote of the Day
The secular population in Jerusalem lives off the Haredim, not the other way around. The big money comes form rich people abroad. The young neighborhoods and the secular neighborhoods are exempt from property value increase taxes because they need to be strengthened. Where do the monies come from? from the dossim, the religious people, in America, my uncles, that come from America and raise the value of the property.
For the good of the general public, we need to make separate cities. If the general population does not want to feel conquered, and rightly so, in places like Kiryat Yovel, Bet Shemesh, Gilo, and certainly between Haredi and Secular, separate cities is the right way to go. The Haredi interest has leanings in both directions.
If one is placed opposite the other: first of all, torah learning, as that has sustained the Jewish nation for 2000 years. The army has sustained us for 74 years. I would put 2000 opposite 74 and that would be the weight. I give more weight to the future of the Jewish nation via Torah learning
-- former MK (and likely soon to be future MK) Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ), at a conference discussing the Haredi population and a variety of issues affecting them
Pindrus said a lot there. The debate over mixing cities with varying populations versus building separate cities for secular and Haredi has been raging for a long time. Pindrus's position is not agreed to by everyone even in the Haredi leadership, but it would likely lower tensions in many places.
I am surprised he said the army has sustained us for 74 years, and not that the Torah learning has given the army the power and success to do so, negating the army's effect on its own.
There is big money, and a lot of it, coming from abroad to Jerusalem and other areas, but I am not convinced it is as significant as he says it is, that it is the bulk of the money supporting the city. He would have to prove that.

bad luck
MK Yitzchak Pindrus's bad luck seems to continue.
After a sweeping success in the elections the other day, with UTJ even seemingly growing to 8 seats putting Pindrus int he Knesset, the final count in the final ballots being counted knocked UTJ back down to 7 seats and pushed Lieberman up to 6 seats.
That means once again they fall just short of getting Pindrus into the Knesset.
of course once the coalition is formed and the government sworn in, the Norwegian Law will be implemented and Pindrus will get in via that, assuming UTJ is part of the coalition (safe bet it seems), but for now his luck has him falling just short once again.

There is a better chance that we will form a government with [former Iranian President] Ahmadinejad before [we form one with] Gantz and this entire group; where did you come up with this fantasy? A year and a half has passed, we have seen what they do in every ministry regardless of coalition agreements. Can we as a Jewish state live with this? Can we be part of such a coalition? What you invest in democracy you should also invest in Judaism, that it will be balanced

As far as Halacha [Jewish traditional law] goes, any [sexual] abuser falls under the category of ‘rodef’. If we wouldn’t have a government and laws, we would have to shoot him at point blank range. [But] every city has courts which deal aggressively with the issue.

Quote of the Day
There is a difference between supporting them and between requesting things we need for our community. If they would be received in our cities with royal honors, so you would have a complaint, but if they think the fruit put out on the table is some big honor and maybe it is a sign we will joint eh coalition, so maybe we should only put out water next time..
They gave the Reform 40 million shekels, which is an average of about a million shekel for each Reform person. Tomorrow we will have a joint consultation among Shas and UTJ and Hatzionut Hadatit to determine how to explain to the public the danger in this.
-- MK Yitzchak Pindrus, regarding the coalition
if the Reform are only (about) 40 people, UTJ would have nothing to worry about. Even a lot of money (and 40million isnt really that much relative to the budget) to a community of 40 people isnt going to change much in the country.. obviously they are much more significant than that, or Pindrus and the rest of UTJ and Shas wouldnt be so worried or enraged.

I speak all the time with all the ministers, all the MKs speak with all the ministers at a professional and practical level. We won't make a photographed meeting broadcast to the media, so as not to give them legitimacy - but talks are happening all the time.
-- MK Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ)
because it is appearing with them in pictures that gives them legitimacy, not talking to them and working with them and making requests and suggestions and demands..
I am actually happy this is happening, even though most of the UTJ people (and Shas people) have been denying it. This is how the government should function. Half the people shouldn't be abandoned because the opposition MKs are brogez with the ministers.

Quote of the Day
The Haredi "Badatzes" will profit from your reforms. That rav in Shoham will not profit from it, the Haredi kashrut organization will profit from it but we are not looking out for our own interests but for the two million masorati people who consume kosher food. Where is your ahavat yisrael, your love for Jews, for Masouda in Sderot and for Shimon from Dimona who because of you wont have kosher food?
-- MK Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ)
1. Pindrus is probably right - the Haredi hechshers will benefit, get bigger, make more money, get more authority, from the kashrut reform turning Rabbanut into a regulator, and the Rabbanut probably wont authorize Tzohar to certify kashrut.
2. Even though Pindrus is probably right, the free market is almost always better for everybody. Monopolies are good for nobody except for the people who control the monopoly. If people want Badatzes to replace the Rabbanut, give the people Badatzes. If people want a basic level of kashrut, I am sure there will be some organization that will step and provide what the market demands.
3. I do not think Masouda in Sderot and Shimon in Dimona will not have kashrut available to them. the market will provide what is demanded. If people want to eat kosher, an organization will be happy to provide that. It won't be the Rabbanut because they will be regulators, but it will be a different organization

Quote of the Day
The disturbances on Har Habayit began just two hours before the Leftist government signed their coalition agreements. We must admit, it is a miracle. Saar and Bennett are on the Right. We hope that they will overcome their personal hatred..
-- MK Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ)
Wow. The entire rioting, part of the tiktokifada, that "supposedly" led to Hamas shooting rockets from Gaza into Israel and the Shomer Hachomot military operation, in which people were injured and killed and much property damaged and destroyed, including shuls and yeshivas, all that was a miracle just to prevent the possible (though he says definite) signing of an agreement between Lapid and Bennett.... God works in mysterious ways....

Quote of the Day
The most dangerous thing is the defiling of the mikdash and its holies. It is prohibited to enter Har Habayit, not because it is antagonistic to the non-Jews, but because we are faithful to the words of our rabbis... whenever we touch the place an intifada breaks out. Stop looking for diplomatic reasons [for the conflagration], the cause is the damage to the mikdash.
-- MK Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ), blaming Jews on Har Habayit for the latest round of violence
Well, at least he didn't blame women. Then again, he is a politician and cannot really blame women - they wont vote for his party in the next election if he does. Only the rabbis can blame women. He can blame the Har Habayit ascenders because they are mostly not UTJ voters.....

Proposed Law: cancel CoronaVirus fines
MK Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ) has proposed a law that would cancel most of the fines given out for breaking the Corona guidelines of the past year. Pindrus is proposing this saying that the people have experienced a particularly difficult year and should not be turned into criminals at the same time. According to Behadrei, the other MKs to sign on the proposal were all Haredi MKs in addition to MK Shlomo Karhi of the Likud, which is surprising because the Likud controls the ministry that decided on the fines.
Pindrus would have the fines canceled for most issues, but it would not include fines given to people for breaking quarantine or people who regularly flouted the rules and received multiple fines.
Pindrus explains in his proposal that frequently the laws were changed form moment to moment, at times with no advance warning and without enough publicity to let people know the new rules, with many new rules at all times and different rules in different places making it difficult for people to keep track. Additionally at times there were complaints of how the laws were enforced, selectively and harshly at times, with fines given in a way that left no room for appeal, children, etc.
Further, at times the fine was not given at the time of the infraction but was sent via mail, which didnt always function properly throughout the Corona year. At times people did not receive the fine yet in the mail before even finding out that they missed the pay date and a file had been opened on them with the fine doubled and interest added, etc
The purpose of the fine is to create deterrence and encourage people to follow the rules. Now, after the fact, with Corona in recession and most of the restrictions already removed, there is no reason to continue enforcing the fines that remain unpaid from the past year. As well, most fines were not paid and many are asking to appear in court to challenge their fines. This will put a heavy burden on the courts.
So as not to encourage people to break the laws, and so as not to reward people who broke the laws, the proposal for canceling the fines would only apply to the first fine of any type for a specific person - so if someone was fined 3 times for not wearing a mask outside, he would only get two fines (or maybe 1 as he also proposed certain infractions get the first two canceled). I dont know if this applies to people who made weddings or other large events against the rules, but presumably it does.
source: Behadrei
I predicted a long time ago that they would try to get the fines officially canceled, so this is not surprising.
He says he doesnt want to "reward the sinner", but that is precisely what he is doing. Some people did not try to break the rules and were surely fined for minor things, mistakes, etc but many intentionally flouted the rules, refused to wear masks, made parties against the rules, etc.
He also does not want to encourage people to break the law, but canceling the fines does just that. Next time there is a situation requiring similar rules, another pandemic or whatever, people will already know they do not need to bother keeping the rules because fines will be canceled anyway. They will even use this as a precedent.

Proposed Law: racism against Haredim
The current law on the books disqualifies anyone from running for Knesset if it can be shown that the person or party incites to racism. The law has been defined as actual racism - based on someone's actual race or skin color.
Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony for the 24th Knesset yesterday MK Yitzchak Pindrus (UTJ) proposed an amendment to this law. Because "Haredi" is not a race, anyone who is "racist", in the broader sense of the term, against Haredim is not really being racist and cannot be disqualified from running for Knesset for such behavior. Pindrus proposed to amend the law to include incitement against Haredim.
Pindrus's goal is to either get Avigdor Lieberman disqualified from running for Knesset in future elections or to make him reign himself in and stop being so anti-haredi out of concern that he could be disqualified.
source: Hamechadesh
What are the chances of this law passing? While the "coalition" (that does not yet exist but is currently in the form of a bloc of parties) does not necessarily have the numbers to pass this, The Haredi parties are friends with enough parties that they could rally additional support - maybe the Arabs parties who used to be the target of Lieberman's ire and often cooperate with the Haredi parties might support such a law and maybe some others who might not like Lieberman or some who might just want to curry favor with the Haredi parties. It doesn't seem likely to me, but I don't see it as being far fetched.
Even if it passes it seems like it might be hard to put into effect. Will they try to disqualify every political opponent using this law, saying they are racist against Haredim? For example, Yair Lapid because he has wanted to pass laws regarding Haredi community that Haredi parties were opposed to, such as drafting yeshiva bochurim or budgets for yeshivas or requiring core curriculum studies? What Lieberman recently said about Haredim might be far more clear for such a law, but there is also a lot of gray situations where they might try to use it.
To use such a law, if it should pass, would require the Haredim to break from previous policy. In cases where parties appealed to the electoral board to disqualify candidates based on racism or supporting terror, the Haredi parties always refused to vote saying if they do, it can boomerang and later be used against them. If they pass this law and then later appeal to the electoral board against Lieberman or any other candidate, that would be a significant break in policy.

MK Pindrus apologizes
After MK Yitzchak Pindrus caused a major brouhaha with is statement calling "shiksas" the female soldiers in the IDF who convert to Judaism through the Army conversion program, he has now apologized and clarified his thoughts and positions.
I think his apology and clarification is important, and also reasonable (even if I don't agree with what he says 100%, and maybe I will comment on that below), so I feel it is fair to bring it here and translate it. Not only is it important and reasonable as an apology, but I think it also sheds light as to the approach and behavior of [some of] the Haredi politicians.
The word "shiksa" was inappropriate and out of place. If I would want to curse someone, I should have looked elsewhere and not at a soldier serving in the IDF.Religion is not personally mine, or personal to a soldier. As it is, even a not Jewish soldier who does not convert at all - I appreciate and value him, and think that he is giving to Israel sometimes even much more than a Jew from birth who does not give to Israel. At the end of the day, the category of Jew is a religious categorization, and need not be determined by the courts or by the Chief of Staff, but only by halacha. Somebody who undergoes conversion without the approval of the Chief Rabbinate is not considered a Jew - there is nothing to do about it, and it is not dependent on me.There is no doubt that anyone who undergoes a halachic conversion, also through the IDF conversion system, is a convert. I apologize to those who went through halachic conversions and were hurt by what I said - - I think it was not correct. I speak from pain - the pain that there are children in the IDF who meet a nice young lady and think she is Jewish, and are not aware of the national tragedy they are bringing upon their families and on themselves.Judaism is a religion, not a political game. Neither the Supreme Court nor the political party of United Torah Judaism are able to define what is a Jew. There is an intrinsic problem when you mic law and democracy with religion. It is oil and water, and that is why we run away from religious legislation, it is oil and water. To introduce a religious law is something that has no chance for success, we only do it when the Supreme Court puts a gun to our head. Therefore UTJ will demand of whatever government is formed to legislate the law to bypass the courts. At the end of the day, we are concerned about every religious law that comes to a vote, even today.
I would only comment on two points of what MK Pindrus said:
1. Pindrus said, "Somebody who undergoes conversion without the approval of the Chief Rabbinate is not considered a Jew - there is nothing to do about it, and it is not dependent on me"
I am sorry, but that itself is a law in the State of Israel, not halacha. There is no such halacha of centralizing the conversion process. According to Shulchan Aruch any beis din of 3 can convert someone to Judaism. There is no centralization, and no requirement of approval from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. If you are talking about halacha and saying that is the final word on the matter, the halacha says nothing about requiring the affirmation of the Chief Rabbinate.
And, on the same matter, when he goes on to talk about avoiding religious legislation, maybe they should not support the requirement of requiring the involvement of the CHief Rabbinate but should support the Supreme Court decision. The Supreme Court decision allowing any beis din to perform conversions for Israel is more in line with halacha than the law UTJ supports requiring the Chief Rabbinate's involvement. True, the law as it would be according to the Supreme Court could cause problems with the Reform, but the rest of the world has found ways to deal with that. So which is it - halacha or mixing religion and democracy which he says is oil and water?
2. UTJ really does avoid religious legislation, for the most part. They don't really push religious laws, but try to get policies categorized under the Status Quo. Shas might be different, but UTJ is more hesitant on that. Maybe that is why in all this time in government they avoided passing a conversion law, a draft law and so many others.
But, if they are really so against the mixing of religion and democracy, maybe they should support the separation of Shul and State.

MK Pindrus is opposed to IDF conversion system (video)
I have yet to fully understand the position of the Haredi parties with the State and the Rabbanut. On the one hand they support it and want the law to only allow Rabbanut and State conversions (probably in part because it is at least somewhat controlled by them..) but then talk against conversions performed by that very system...
