Quote of the Day

Haredim need to take part in the role of protecting the Jewish nation, and there should be deaths [in the IDF] also from the Haredi community.... I want to say that there should not be any deaths from any community, but if it is decreed upon us that there will be deaths, some of those must also be from the Haredi community together with the rest of the public.

  1. What a disgusting thing to say, but no surprise, as it's coming from him. Think he's the one who wears a kippah, if I'm not mistaken. Does he have a Jewish soul?

I don't think you have one. כל ישראל ערבים זה בזה

even when inconvenient and even if a liability

      What does that even mean?

Let's take another tack, from פרקי אבות.

Charedim don't give of their lives, but they insist that everyone else give up their lives in service. They are רשעים.

    4. It is ‏to mean for רוחניות also

      ironic,Avi!?

    5. You have replied twice, and each reply is less comprehensible than the last. What is also meant for רוחניות? If the quote from פרקי אבות, that is utterly meaningless. No one is asking חרדים to give them their רוחניות. And you can't take רוחניות away anyhow, so it's ridiculous to assert that is the meaning to begin with.

    6. Oy. It really is above your level of comprehension. MY apologies.
We'll stick with the one most pertinent to you for the time being , shall we?

If someone limits their concern with their own level of יהדות but is unconcerned with the level of יהדות of others
שלי שלי ושלך שלך זו מדת סדום

    7. The citations from פרקי אבות are referring to giving or taking something someone has. Whether material possessions or ones own life. It is not talking about keeping ones religion to ones self. No one who is דתי is claiming that דת is only for them. No one is saying that חילונים can't have דת. You are not a חסיד if you force someone to take one of your possessions. You are a חסיד if you offer your possessions. Those with דת offer that דת to anyone who wants it, and don't take the "דת" of חילונים. That makes them חסידים.

So your prooftext pretty much proves the opposite of your claim.

  2. Yep - because G-d only decrees deaths on soldiers. So if G-d decreed death he has no way to do that unless you signup as a soldier.

This logic means that if we dismantle the army we will have no more deaths. Awesome.

  3. He's saying that the nature of war is that some soldiers will die r"l. As a longtime soldier, who has lost many of his troops and many friends and family members, this is something of which he is keenly aware.
Every native-born Data Leumi family is aware of this s well, having attended funerals of family members, classmates, and siblings of classmates who have been killed. For them, this is a fact of life.

Stern is saying that haredi culture pretty much existing outside of that reality clearly differentiates them from the rest of the Clal -- and that this is one more "burden" that they must share.

Once they do, this will make profound changes to the way they relate to the rest of CLal Yisroel.

    I would agree.

  4. what Stern said was neither wrong nor meanly intended (I dont think). He just said it in a crass way. He probably could have worded it better

  5. Stern has proven himself many times. The proper thing to be said was that 'he prays there be no need for war again, so no more deaths', not that there be deaths among the chareidim, because what he said sounded like he was wishing it for them. It was more than just tactless.
