Quote of the Day

In the government of Gideon Saar there will be no religious coercion. That is a commitment, and I guarantee it - not like Aryeh Deri, but truly.

-- Danny Dayan, member (and candidate for Knesset) of Tikva Chadasha

I like the little dig at Deri.

Regarding religious coercion? who knows. Maybe it depends on how you define religious coercion? Many will say Saar will have to prove himself on that, as when he served as Minister of Interior he did not approve the opening of shops on Shabbos.

  1. That's the usual politician empty speak. He should be asked for specifics:

    (1) Do you intend to abolish of reform the Rabbanut as a state institution? What would you do?

    (2) Will the rabbanut retain its monopoly on marriage and divorce for Jews? Do you intend to institute civil marriage? What about same-sex marriage?

    (3) What about shabbos laws that regulate commerce and transportation? Will those be changed, and how?
