PM Netanyahu's statement to the Press (video)

very disappointing speech

to blame everything on Lapid and Bennett he needed to call a special speech and press conference? he and his peers have been doing this for weeks already. He said nothing new and nothing reassuring other than basically 'trust me to fix all their mistakes'

adding a minor note, PM Bibi was always dressed impeccably. Tonight his tie was off center, his collar was creased up over his jacket, and his suit looked a bit ill fitting. I dont know if that indicates anything but he seems off just a bit...

Bibi is the consummate tactician. I think that from the state he planned a judicial reform that wouldn't be this radical. He knew that Lapid would aggressively condemn any change, even the flavour of tea in the Knesset cafeteria as a threat against the existence of decency in the state so he went big - massive reforms he knew would never exist but if he got 20% of what he was asking for, well that's what he really wanted anyway.
I don't think he anticipate the response. The Israeli secular left knows it's a minority and that Israel is changing slowly into a more Jewish state, their existential nightmare, because the majority is now religious or traditional and that's the country they want. The left is also faced with a horrible decision - put up with being the minority just like the religious and Sephardim did for decades or attempt to destroy the state in a fit of pique. And it seems many of them are okay with demolishing the country, for all they say otherwise, if they don't get to run it. That fury has got to be a shock to him. Because let's face it - whether or not you like him, you can't deny that Bibi is a patriot who has spent his career strengthening and defending Israel against incredible odds. To be treated by 40% of the country as the devil incarnate and the worst threat its ever faced has got to be disturbing.
But I also don't think Bibi anticipated what idiots his government partners would turn out to be and how they'd used their new power to shove their radical ideas down everyone's throats. Perhaps he really thought the smaller parties would moderate but their infantile desire to turn Israel into mini-Iran has got to be weighing on him too.
