I have nothing wise or unique to say, and I am not in the mood to call for restraint or revenge, so I am just not going to say anything. There will be no blogging for me today.

I don't normally do death announcements (unless I had a personal relationship with the niftar, and even then..), but Rav Elyashiv wasn't just anybody.

A short while ago Rav Elyashiv passed away. Baruch Dayan HaEmes.

As of right now, from what I hear, the levaya is scheduled for 10 PM tonight beginning in Mea Shearim near his home/shul...

I am not quite sure what to say, or what can be said, besides for Baruch Dayan HaEmes. I fail to understand how people can perpetrate such crimes against humanity that show the perp to clearly be devoid of any humanity at all..

The horrific tragedy of 9-year old Leiby Kletsky's abduction and murder has been horrible and shocking.

A 72-year-old Skokie man was among four family members killed when a small plane crashed near Mackinac Island, Michigan on Tuesday.

Four people were killed and a fifth person injured when a twin-engine Beech Baron 58 aircraft crashed just after 5 p.m. near the Mackinac County Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and the Mackinac County Sheriff's office.

Five people -- all related -- were on board when the plane encountered difficulties after taking off from the county airport in St. Ignace, the sheriff's office said. Four people died but a 13-year-old boy was ejected from the plane and later airlifted to a downstate Michigan hospital.

The plane crossed over northbound Interstate Highway 75 and struck the median barrier, flipping over and coming to rest on the shoulder of southbound I-75, according to the sheriff's office. No vehicles on the highway were involved.

Moshe Menora, 72, was among those killed, according to his daughter, Miriam
Schreiber, who spoke late Tuesday from her father's home. She confirmed the deaths but decline further comment.

Menora was with his four grandchildren who were visiting from Israel when the plane went down, according to reports on the matzav.com and vidyid.com Web sites, which focus on news for the Jewish community..

As of late Tuesday, the Mackinac County sheriff's office was not releasing the names of the victims.

The Beech Baron 58 multi-engine fixed-wing plane, manufactured in 1987, had a current certification and was registered to Tri United Inc. of Skokie under the serial number TH-1526, according to the FAA Web site.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

The levaya will be at the beis medrash of Rav Eliyahu zt'l in Kiryat Moshe at 22:00.

B'yahchad BS has arranged a bus leaving for the levaya from RBS at 20:30 from the Matnas, and from Migdal HaMayim (by the shul) in BS at 20:45.

By now you all know that the Bostoner Rebbe passed away over Shabbos. The Rebbe was a warm and compassionate person, a leader of Judaism in many areas and various realms in which he was involved, and commanded respect around the world for his integrity. Baruch Dayan HaEmes. His flock will surely miss him, as will all of Klal Yisrael.

The Neturei Karta put out a statement announcing his death as well. Their statement is one that is mevazeh talmidei chachomim. They can argue and not approve of his way. Different people, different groups, can have different opinions and styles. Argument is legitimate.

What is not legitimate is denigrating a great person, or anybody for that matter, just because he does not follow your way.

The Neturei Karta statement said that he was a Zionist who promoted and supported the rebellion against the world nations, and also said Hallel on their holiday which was a curse and blaspheme against the One who created the world. Upon his death, all the impure media of the Aguda broke out in cries and wails - how fortuante are those who fear God and are faithfull to the Torah and do not get impressed by the various titles of human honor, and we breathe easier for the loss of that old Apikorus dressed in the clothes of an Admor. And upon the downfall of an enemy we should rejoice.

My fingers trembled as they wrote this post, fearing they were contributing to the publication of such vile slander. I felt it important to protest the words of the Neturei Karta denigrating the Bostoner Rebbe, zt"l.

May he be a meilitz yosher for all of klal yisrael, just as he was in life.

I don't normally put up obituaries - the death of a personality is a news item that you can get from reading any newspaper, and there is no need for me to mention it.
It seems she did not get along well with the kibbutz, but lived there for a long time. Eventually she joined the navy.

At a later stage, in 1982, she changed her spots completely and went to the other extreme, moving to Chevron and then later to Kiryat Arba.

I found this interesting interview from 2004 on Arutz 7, from the B'Sheva newspaper, with Frenkel in which she sheds light on some of her life.

The switch from one extreme to the other is what fascinates me. Most people change their views over the course of a lifetime, but the adjustments are fairly minor. Slight lifestyle changes, and even if the changes are great, it is generally only certain aspects of their life, while much of their worldview will remain the same or similar to what it was. Frenkel did not just adjust her life from being a leftist to right wing, but from extreme left to extreme right. At the same time, from secular to religious. And not just staying in Tel Aviv or moving to a religious area, but moving to Chevron-Kiryat Arba.

UTJ was supposed to have a big rally in Jerusalem, right about now, in an attempt to shore up support and win back some of their disenfranchised voters.

Rav Elyashiv was going to, probably (was being assumed by all), sign a declaration calling for everyone to vote UTJ, and then most of the rabbonim who have refused to sign until now would likely fall in line and sign. Then at least most of the disenfranchised voters would likely vote for UTJ as usual.

The rally was canceled at the last minute, due to the death of Rav Elyashiv's son in law, Rav Yosef Yisraelson.

A friend, Josh Nathan, said to me, that this must be a sign from God not to vote UTJ. Right as they were about to sign the paper telling people to vote for them, God caused it to not be signed.

I don't like speaking in God's name, but everybody else does nowadays anyway, so maybe it is a sign?

If it is a sign, I would really prefer a sign of who God does want me to vote for, and not just a sign of who He does not want me to vote for!

The Mishpacha Hebrew newspaper this past week reported of a tragic incident that happened in yerushalayim last week.

A mikva attendant (male) collapsed on Friday while at work in the mikva (I don't think it happened in the water but while he was attending).

Hatzalah came quickly and found him unconscious. They tried to resuscitate him to no avail and they had to bring a doctor to pronounce his death.

Not to make light of his tragedy, but I can't get the image out of my head of a bunch of guys in the mikva trying to resuscitate someone...
