Initially I was a little upset, even if Lieberman deserved it. Why was I upset? Because UTJ has, in the past and even in the very recent past, refused to support such initiatives to disqualify candidates form running when they said things supporting terrorism against Israel and other anti-Israel extreme statements. UTJ always justified their refusal to participate by explaining that they will not support banning anyone, as once they do it can be turned around to ban the Haredi politicians next. Makes sense. Fair enough.

So why suddenly try to disqualify Lieberman? Because he said something against you? It is still against UTJ policy.

Today he met his match, sort of.

For some unknown reason he demanded Bennett pledge to not sit in the same government as Yair Lapid and to not have a rotation arrangement with him.

Now I don't know on what basis Netanyahu was making this demand. Bennett owes him nothing, and Netanyahu has not committed anything to Bennett, and in the past Netanyahu has not kept his side of such commitments. So the demand itself is weird. He probably just wanted to trip up Bennett and get him to say something he would later regret. Maybe, I am not sure. 

So he made this demand of Bennett.

Bennett's response was quick in coming. Bennet said this is the same Netanyahu that promised to evacuate Khan Al Ahmar, which today has already developed into a small city. It is the same Netanyahu that repeatedly pledges before elections that he will annex Judea and Samaria. The same Netanyahu that pledged to include Ichud Leumi but then tossed them aside and brought Ehud Barak into the government. The same Netanyahu that said we will fulfill a rotation government with no tricks and before he even finished saying the sentence he already broke his rotation agreement.... Hearing Netanyahu talk about commitments is like pressing in Waze the button that says 'I am not the driver".

Bennett then said that the only thing he will commit to is to establishing a Yamina government that cares about the citizens, not a government whose ministers say that people who don't vote for that party are misanthropes.

Good answer Bennett.

funny way to condemn the violence, as Netanyahu continues his strategy of making Saar look irrelevant. His strategy seems to be working well.

The question at times raised is if a kashrut agency can, or should, certify as kosher a restaurant that serves products that are imitations of "treif" foods, such as kosher bacon, such as kosher cheeseburgers, and the like. The question is also if it is ok to serve such products, but many, from what I can tell, are of the opinion that it is common enough today and would not be considered maris ayin. Some, especially among the more Haredi hechshers, won't give kashrut certification on such products, but plenty do.

Crave, a popular restaurant in Jerusalem that serves kosher cheeseburgers and kosher bacon among other things, writes about a new policy by the Rabbanut on the matter. Because of the Rabbanut they need to stop calling it bacon but to now call it facon (from the conjunction of the two words fake and bacon)... English in the Crave post is after the Hebrew...

We must start talking in a different way, behave differently, argue differently.

Politics is dragging Israeli society into the abyss. It is time for a more sane discourse.
