40 days and 40 nights
If you were wondering about the segulah of davening 40 days straight, that segulah has just been upped and outdone. 40 days in a row is now passe.
The Kupat Ho'Ir of Bnei Brak is now advertising that they will say the entire tehillim for you (and for your donation) for 40 days and 40 nights in a row!
Where does this go from here? 40 mornings, 40 afternoons and 40 nights? 40 times each day for 40 days?
What other multiples of 40 can you come up with that they can use for targeting your donations?

Someone should do a study of Kupat Ha'Ir's fundraising techniques. It's like they've created a whole new religion.
ReplyDeleteIt's bizarre that the sponsors of this organisation that seems to be totally built on segulos and superstition are the leaders of the once rationalist litvisher yeshivos.
ReplyDeletethere has been a cultural change in the past generation. Haredi magazines have written about it a number of times. litvishe act hassidic in many aspects, hassidic act litvishe, etc..
ReplyDeleteHmm, you know, people use marketing talents in many ways, to, you know, like, actually make a living instead of schnorring off others. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteHere's another campaign idea. One tehillim every 40 seconds for 40 hours in a row. (It could be like a relay race with bochurim lining up to take over from those who tire out). And they could set up a webcam so you can watch the bochur who has you in mind.
And why just the bochurim? Isn't saying tehillim really a women's acitivity. Get the veblach into a call center in beitar illit and let's get this ball rolling!
Hashem yishmor, i realize this is a terrible way to talk about a holy book and activity, but the real bizayon is this whole campaign to begin with.
Abbi - you can add to that - 40 cycles of 40 seconds for 40 hours

Rafi is correct, but it's also been reported that R' Kanievsky does not actually approve of the segulot Kupat Hair says he approves of.
PURE. AVODA. ZARA.
ReplyDeleteTzedaka is a great thing, but cursed be the day when Jews cannot be bothered to pray to Hashem PERSONALLY.
A bizayon to Yiddishkeit and to its principles.
