Planning for Tuesday morning at the Kotel

For the first time the Haredim are gearing up in advance to prepare for the monthly fight against the Women of the Wall. Every month, recently, on Rosh Chodesh, the Women of the Wall have organized and come as a group to the Kotel to daven in their own minyan, wearing tallis (mens versions and womens versions, as per the police description) and singing aloud.

Until now, WoW would show up on Rosh Chodesh, do their thing, and the Haredim present at the time would scream and protest them, and the police would come, separate the sides, and make some arrests. Even more recently the police have been preemptively arresting women as they enter the Kotel area if they are spotted with a tallis or if they are identified as being part of the group.

But now, the Haredim are preparing in advance and trying to rally the troops. The pashkevil below has been posted around Jerusalem. It calls on "anybody to whom is important the place the shechina has never left" to come to thee Kotel on Rosh Chodesh at 7 AM and protest the desecration of the holy place.

That single sentence encapsulates everything that is so wrong about the charedi attitude towards everything in Israel. If I really wanted to "Readers' Digest" the matter even further the charedi philosophy towards anything that is not in line with their way of life the word "intolerance" springs to mind.

Leaving aside "peace talks" with Israel's neighbors for a moment, there will be no peace within Israel until extremists at either end of the domestic political and religious spectrums get it into their thick skulls that no one group "owns" Israel.

It most definitely should not degenerate further into becoming an out and out theocracy.

NOT TRUE !!! Anyone can put up signs. There are no signitures on this sign. I don't believe any gedolim are for this. Only ignorant charedim will be there. It is often counterproductive to protest things. I don't think that after 20 years anyone really decided to protest these women.

Don't tar and feather all haredim.
