Quote of the Day

We did not ban the haredim, but the haredim are the masters of banning others. They ban our rabbonim. Every little activist of theirs who gets elected to the Knesset immediately becomes a Rav, but when their media mentions our rabbonim, it calls them by their first names.

-- Rav Chaim Druckman, speaking at the HaBayit HaYehudi convention to ratify the coalition agreement. it was ratified unanimously.

  1. Chareidism suffers from myopia. It really believes that what is good for the goose is not good for the gander. They have no trouble delegitimizing others while reacting with fury to any assault on their own. What's more, many of them really believe this is a correct thing and can't understand why the rest of the world doesn't sign on.

  2. I can tell you without a doubt it pained Rav Drukman to have to make such an observation publicly. He spent his whole life educating his students, as Rav Tzvi Yehudah Kook educated him, to love all Israel and especially those who uphold Torah. But he is committed to serving the entirety of Am Yisrael, to the extent that he can do so without harming Torah. This runs counter to the parochial interests of the haredi parties. I don't think he ever wanted to publicly square off with the haredi parties. It seems to have finally become too manifest that they harm the greater public interest (and therefore ultimately harm the greater cause of Torah, as well).
