Facebook Status of the Day
this is a simple Facebook post but the intrigue involved gets it fsotd
MK Danny Danon, a longstanding member of the Likud, is tweeting that today is an excellent day to evacuate the village of Khan Al Ahmar
Khan Al Ahmar is a Bedouin village in the south that was built illegally. It is so illegal that even the Supreme Court gave the go ahead to evacuate and dismantle it. Yet Netanyahu over the years has always delayed taking action on this, and the last government led by Lapid and Bennett didn't either (maybe they didnt have enough time to get to it, their government was so short-lived). Netanyahu's "full right wing government" has so far only dismantled an illegal Jewish settlement since it took over, but Khan Al Ahmar still stands. And Danon is commenting on it as if his party and coalition is not the ruling party. Danon might be trying to make some trouble as he didnt get a good job from Netanyahu, but still, Danon is talking as if the Likud is not the ruling party right now

Quote of the Day
Our partners to the new government need to understand that we do not work for them, we are working with them. I expect everyone now to be more flexible and allow for the establishment of the government within a week. The public has no more patience for this procrastination

Quote of the Day
If Netanyahu were to respond positively to all the demands of our partners there would be nothing left for the Likud. A little bit of proportions - let's not forget which is the largest party int he bloc..
-- MK Danny Danon (Likud)
Danon is 100% right, but that is coalition politics for you. He needs them to form a coalition, so they can hold him over the coals. But they also need him, so he can hold them over the coals a bit. But it has to work equally for all the partners. Netanyahu cannot be overly generous with some of the parties and then tell one party (the largest of the smaller parties) to not worry about jobs and positions and influence. He cant just hold one party over the coals. he used to be able to but so far Smotritch is saying that isnt going to work any more.

kosher food in the United Nations?
After Danny Danon got the United Nations last year to recognize Yom Kippur as an official UN holiday, Danon is working to make the UN more Jew, or Israel, friendly.
Danon has sent a letter to Ban Ki-Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, saying that despite the numerous Jews working in various capacities in the United Nations and Jewish diplomats from various nations, there is no kosher food to be found in the United Nations cafeteria. All citizens of the world should feel desired in the UN.
In addition, Danon also requested that the UN give approval to more than just the one kosher caterer it approves of for catering kosher events within the UN complex. Because there is only 1 approved caterer, costs of catering kosher events cost the Israeli delegation 40% more than other [non-kosher] caterers in the complex. More approved caterers will mean cheaper prices.

Good for Danon. I have no idea how many people go through the UN that would benefit from this, but if he is helping any Jew keep kosher while at work there, that is a good thing.
Who knows? soon the UN might actually be a Jew-friendly organization!

Quote of the Day
The left should take some tranquilizers...
I do not understand neither [Lapid’s] style nor his substance. He talks about ‘settlement blocs’. His first campaign speech was made in Ariel. So does he object to Israeli sovereignty in Ariel? He agrees for unilateral territorial concessions but annexation should only be by consent? It’s difficult to understand the logic. This logic leads nowhere, but rather demonstrates a lack of political experience and lack of understanding of reality. Unilateral withdrawals and not even thinking about annexation of the blocs is something which is beyond my comprehension.
-- Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon

John Kerry Solutions Inc. Israel Tour, February 2014 (video)
John Kerry has, deservedly, taken a beating in Israel the past couple of days. After saying something stupid, everyone has come out swinging... I even suspect that the recent muscle flexing by PM Netanyahu over Bennet's criticism of Netanyahu's plan for eventual peace was really just in preparation for standing up to John Kerry - to give himself the strength and the appearance of being able to stand on principle..
Danny Danon on Kerry..

Deputy Minister of Defense Danny Danon gets today's FSotD:
Translation:
This morning I visited the first Haredi Army Prep School.
The prep school "Harerei Zion", located in the Gadi camp in the Jordan Valley and will open its doors on August 7th, will be a rbidge of true sharing the burden in the way of brotherly love and bringing hearts closer. Graduates of the prep school will serve 3 years of front line service in the brigade of "Netzach Yehuda". During the visit, I met with the heads of the prep school and some students, I said I am happy to be here and wish you luck in your studies and your service. As Deputy Defense Minister I plan to continue to work to establishing more such prep schools and encourage the drafting to the IDF among the Haredi community.

Lapid: Equal Army Service or this Gov't is History (video)
different approaches.. even among brothers..
though plenty of people in the government were not happy with Lapid's threat. With his low polling right now after his budget cuts, he probably does not have much behind his threat of dismantling the government and going to elections... Danny Danon, the Deputy Defense Minister said Lapid's threats don't move us. We want real "equality of service" - the kind that includes everyone, even Israeli Arabs, not just for haredim. Defense Minister Moshe Bogie Yaalon also weighed in against Lapid saying that he is being so harsh on the issue of "equality of service" for haredim in order to make up for his mistakes with the budget cuts and thereby regain some popularity.

Mayor Of Bet Shemesh Moshe Abutbol Complains About MK Danny Danon
Last week, the Knesset Committee of Absorption held a special meeting in Bet Shemesh led by MK Danny Danon to deal with some problems seemingly unique to Bet Shemesh considering its high potential for continued growth and aliyah expansion, and considering its past a prime location and target city for new olim. The committee dealt largely with the seemingly limited growth that is being directed specifically toward haredim rather than for the general public in addition to the haredi community.
Of course, the haredi press always see such statements as anti-haredi, claiming they are trying to stop haredim from building and buying, even though that is not the case. I did not see a single statement making that point. Rather, the idea was stressed that building for haredim is great, but it has to also include building for the general public. However, the only way to fight that is to make yourself into the victim of bias, so they turn on such thigns and say "so-and-so is anti-haredi", "the meeting took an anti-haredi agenda", etc.
Regardless of that point, Mayor of Bet Shemesh Moshe Abutbol released a statement to the press that they will be filing a complaint with the Speaker of the Knesset and other relevant bodies regarding the inappropriate tone of the meeting, and the diverting of a meeting about absorption to a political agenda regarding internal affairs of the city unconnected to the issue at the core of the meeting.
Personally, I have heard both sides of the perspective, from people who were there and from both side's press reports. It is actually quite fascinating how both sides can tell the same story, relating what happened at the meeting, in completely opposite directions. Who is right? What really happened? It probably does not matter.
Either way, Abubtol says in the press release:

It is actually quite fascinating how both sides can tell the same story, relating what happened at the meeting, in completely opposite directions. Who is right? What really happened? It probably does not matter.
Either way, Abubtol says in the press release:
The committee for absorption is meant to deal with absorption of olim and not try to advance the polarization of the city residents. Bet Shemesh specifically is a preferred target for olim from countries all around the world, and thousands of families from the haredi and dati leumi sectors who have made aliyah from the diaspora live here, so the committee should have blessed Bet Shemesh for doing its part in absorption of olim. Instead of doing so, the director dragged the committee to dishonorable places, damaging the work of the committee and its objectives, and turning its table into a circus of desperate askanim.
Abubtol said, "MK Danon appeared as though he was coming to Bet Shemesh to deal with the true problems of absorption, we thought we have a partner in advancing projects that are important to the city regarding absorption. Surprisingly, we were mistaken and his goals were different, and instead of the committee dealing with the issues in its realm it entered areas where it does not belong. The issue of the relations between haredim and secular in bet Shemesh is an important issue, and as mayor I represent everyone honorably, but these issues have their table, and there are also branches of the various political parties that would agree to host him to discuss those issues, but with all due respect this has nothing to do with the committee for aliyah and absorption. It turned itself into the committee for absorption of incitement.
We will complain to the director of the Knesset and other relevant bodies regarding the activities by MK Danon that were against all the rules of ethics by cynically taking advantage in a shameful way of a very important committee of the Knesset. If I understood correctly, the point of the meeting was how building specifically for haredim, and letting the friction between communities grow, is harming the continuation of aliyah to the city. It was not anti-haredi in nature (though some will say that was the underlying drive behind it and the ultimate goal was to stop haredim completely, as if that is even possible at this point), but was dealing with how the haredi issues are affecting local absorption. But, again, as I said above, the only way to fight that is to make yourself a victim of discrimination and make it an anti-haredi issue.
