I hear Gafni warning about the danger to the Torah world of the upcoming new government, and I want to ask him and Shas: why do you not come to Netanyahu with a clear statement that 'we will not sacrifice the Torah world for you - go home and let us establish a full right wing government with the Haredi parties, with 65 mandates'.. is Netanyahu more important than the Torah??
If Netanyahu would succeed [in forming a government], fine - but is clear he has not succeeded. Now it is the last moment. Get up and tell him that we tried everything... you've lost all your political senses and desire for existence and are sacrificing large parts of the Torah world for Netanyahu

Ramon has recently started sounding like a right wing, and even religious, politician. When he was in politics he was left wing.
Not specifically to Chaim Ramon, but with all the calls to tell Netanyahu to give it up and go home and let someone else from the Likud form a government - why does anyone think Netanyahu would listen, just because the Haredi parties call on him to do so? He will continue to say, I was elected by Likud members to lead the party, don't tell us how to run our party, don't tell us who can lead our party and who cannot.
The Haredi parties should perhaps not have tied themselves to whatever Netanyahu decides, but that's another discussion. They are no better than anybody else regarding telling Netanyahu to go home.

tragedy
Uchh. Who wants to write anything after the tragedy yesterday of Asaf Ramon's fatal plane crash?
And the pregnant mother of 10 who died yesterday of swine flu...
I'll get back in the mood soon (the previous post with the video was posted and scheduled already yesterday before I found out about the accident)...

BREAKING NEWS!!! RAMON FOUND GUILTY!!
My prediction was wrong. Goodbye Haim Ramon. No more politics for you. Prison for three years.
Somebody I know who is in the newspaper business told me that he is horrible. There are a number of other women who have had similar and worse stories with Ramon. When asked why they do not come forward, one of them told his reporter that she does not need it. She has a husband and kids now and she does not need to be in the news and ruin her family. It is hearsay, but it is good he is being locked away.
And the dominoes begin falling. Today an investigation of other member of Knesset from Kadima was launched for fraud, bribery and corruption...

convict or resign
Today the courts will be handing down the verdict in the case against Haim Ramon.
My prediction is that he will be exonerated. I think that the case has almost no merits and is ridiculous. And I do not even like Ramon as a politician.
He might be exonerated with some criticism, which might make it difficult for him to return to his old post as Justice Minister. He might need to take up a new position in the government, which is why Olmert has waited for the ministerial shakeup he has been talking about for a while now. He is waiting to see what he can give Ramon.
And on that note, there have been some calls that if Ramon is found not guilty that would "require" the Attorney General Manny Mazuz to resign. The logic behind this is if he brought such a case to court against such a high ranking public figure and there is no basis to the case and he is found innocent, then manny Mazuz must resign. He will not be able to continue working in his position, as he would have to work closely with Ramon who would return to his position as Justice Minister.
I disagree with that position. Just because he felt there was enough evidence to indict and convict does not gaurantee a conviction. Guilt has to be proven in a court of law and the fact that the prosecuters did not successfully do so should have no bearing on Mazuz's position.
