yesterday's shchita
I was going to write a post describing yesterday's shchita with more pictures, but I have written such posts in the past, and how different can it be anyway, unless something goes wrong.
If you want me to put up some gory pictures and a description, write so in the comments...
---------
I could just put up the old pictures from previous shchitas, and you guys would never know. the pics look pretty similar to the old ones. A cow with its head hanging off looks the same in August as it did in March (or whenever the previous one was). But you asked for it, you got it.
My 10 year old son accompanied me this time and took most of the pictures....

ReplyDeletec'mon.
ReplyDeletewhere's your guts
ok. you guys want guts and gore, here they come...
ReplyDeleteOy Rafi! I won't be able to eat beef for a month! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI've got so much that is all I will be eating for a month or four
ReplyDeleteInteresting pics... I have never seen a shochet at work before.
ReplyDeleteI recall a scene from a Douglas Adams book, when the heroes are at a restaurant, and the waiter asks if they want to meet the Dish of the Day. When they agree, a cow comes to the table.
"I just don't want to eat an animal that's standing there inviting me to," said Arthur. "It's heartless."
"Better than eating an animal that doesn't want to be eaten," said Zaphod.
I don't know where that fits in, but it popped into my mind from this post. Enjoy the beef.
rivka wants the good pics!
ReplyDeletefor those of you who don't know rivka - she's my tomboy 11 year old daughter
these are the best of them. if they are not good enough, look back for the old posts...
ReplyDeletemichael - it was a lamb/sheep, not a cow. from "restaurant at the end of the universe".
ReplyDeleteI don't begrudge anyone their cows, but after those pics, I'm glad I'm a veg! Pass the tofu please!
ReplyDeletewhew! makes me want to be a vegetarian.
ReplyDeleteB"H
ReplyDeleteCool. Animal blood.
Reminds me of home in Tapu'ah.
how does it remind you of Tapuach?
ReplyDeleteYou are one distorted person, a horrific mistake made by god. The fact that you've created seven kids makes me terrified – I hope a miracle will happen and they wont grow up to become monsters as yourself. I wish you all the worst that life can bring.
ReplyDeletesorry I offended you, Regev. I am not sure how I did though... are you offended by the fact that I shechted a cow? If that is it, then I am sorry it offended you, but I will not retract or apologize for what I did, as it is a mitzva whether you like it or not. Are you a vegetarian? do you eat meat but just prefer not to think how the animal got killed? what is your story?
what you are saying is true of any shochet - no specific shochet is obligated to be "the one" to shecht.
ReplyDeleteyou are correct. The gemara even says that someone who has a trait of "blood" should be a mohel or a shochet and that way he at least converts his bad inclination to a mitzva. Perhaps I have a touch of achzaruyot, but at least I let it out in the form of a mitzva.
And yes, we try to minimize as much as possible any tzaar baalei chayim.
I put the pictures up because people find it educational and interesting.
ReplyDeleteeven though I might do something so barbaric as to shecht and post about it along with being orthodox, you would be surprised at how liberal and open minded I really am....
ReplyDeletechag sameach and thanks for taking the time to stop in and express yourself.
