Livni and Peres have something in common
UPDATE: the meeting between Peres and Livni was pushed off at the last minute for undisclosed reasons. The rumors are that a) they are trying a last minute bid to get Shas to agree to join her government and b) they are seeing if they can get Mofaz to try before calling new elections....
Stay tuned for the drama

The decision is yet to be final, though it is mostly just a formality at this point. It seems like we are going to elections. Peres is meeting with Livni right now. She is informing him of her decision to go to elections due to her lack of success in forming a government. After that Peres will call the heads of all the various parties before he makes final announcement as to his decision.
Technically, he could decide to appoint a different MK with the task of forming a government, but it seems likely that new elections will be announced.
The irony of this is that this is only the second time in the history of Israel that the appointed MK failed in the bid to form a government. And who was the first? Shimon Peres in 1990.
I love elections season. They are so exciting. And now we get three overlapping elections! US, municipal, and national.
The best of the three are the national elections, because by law it is a national holiday.
