Mumps outbreak

According to the news reports, the New York Jewish community is suffering a mumps outbreak with 300 people already diagnosed.

Along with that, Mishpacha reported that there is another outbreak in Israel among yeshivas and seminaries with so far over 100 diagnosed.

How does this happen? Are there so many people who forgo basic vaccinations? I am not talking about "iffy" vaccinations that haven't been proven and have serious possible side affects, like the swine flu vaccination for example. Mumps is a basic one.

Are people crazy?

  1. My son is learning in Eretz Yisrael and he has had all his vaccinations. That didn't stop him getting mumps, albeit mildly.

  3. if you are vaccinated , there is still a pertcentage of risk. when you are exposed to a carrier who has no vaccine so their suppression is lowered, even a vaccinated person can get the disease. that's why those who do not vaccinated are possible rodfim. The study that occured linking autism to vaccines has been refuted as poor science by the entire scientific community now, including the doctro who did the original research. Bad science equals bad results.

  4. Mumps are very dangerous. They can also cause male infertility. Do Gedolei Yisrael put out statements about immunizations?

  6. From what I've been told, mumps is a fairly vaccine-resistant disease. Just because you've received a vaccination doesn't mean you're actually immune to it.

Plus, I don't know about you but I am SO not up-to-date on my boosters.

  7. Pesky - the only one adults need to update is tetanus. Maybe Chicken Pox if you're a young adult who was vaccinated and never got it anyway.
