Email Of The Day

Email Of The Day
My son and daughter-in-law will not get their gas masks unless they are given the names of rebbeim - especially gedolim - who are sanctioning the gas masks and telling their followers to get them. Could someone please give me some names so that I could tell my kids.

This email was sent to one of the local neighborhood email lists. I will add that after some personal communication with the sender of the above email, the children who are the subject of the email live elsewhere, and not in RBS.

  1. could you explain why gedolim are needed to get a gas mask? or is this a great case of possible Darwin award material?

Rav Shteinman would issue a statement but his askanim are too busy planning his speaking schedule prior to the next elections.

  3. I saw that one...

Another one I heard was that the husband refused to get them now since they don't have room for all 12 (KA"H) masks in the house.

You could say that if we would need them ch"v at that time the government will set up distribution also - so for now it's spending a little time which might save being in long lines or running out but risking that who knows you might have to switch what they give you now anyway.

(We picked up ours. But there aren't 12, and they all fit above the aronot in or near the mamad.)

  4. I saw that. The "adults" are hopefully old enough to ruin their own lives, but I feel for _their_ kids.

Kol hakavod to the (grand)parents, though, for trying to help their apparently brain dead offspring, and not letting the shame of admitting that they've brought such morons into the world prevent them from asking.

  5. Mikeage - that was unusually harsh, especially for you..

  6. If someone could demonstrate that there's a shaila to be asked (are the gas masks a $1000 purchase? Is there an issue of yichud in the pickup point? does one need to shave pre-emptively just in case there's an attack?), I'll gladly withdraw my comments.

But in the current situation... I'm sorry. The only justification is that they're not hurting anyone but themselves, and that's why I commented about the kids (if any).

  7. Mikeage,

These are the same people who put molesters and abusers before their kids by listening to rabbis who tell them not to report.

  8. Why would getting a mask not be considered normal hishtadlus when living in Israel? And shouldn't the son and DIL ask their OWN Rabbi if it's an issue? It seems like they are being dafka-niks.

  9. it seems they are assuming it is a problem (perhaps shows lack of beetachon?), and she is trying to show them that rabbonim say it should be done

  10. I showed this to my (Gentile)neighbour when he popped into my home a few moments ago.

He read the story, he scanned the comments, he pondered on the implications, and then declared in a broad Yorkshire accent: "There's nowt so queer as folk!"

Best wishes to all in א"י from Jersey, in the (British) Channel Islands - the real Jersey

  12. "I dont even know what that means!"

  14. The should ask their local gadol if it is permissible to breathe the air.

And if it is permissible to drink the water.

And when they should take a dump.

    Stupid sheep!

  15. hey, maybe the parents can market the gas masks to them as an air filtration system, as by breathing unfiltered air they are surely sucking numerous bugs...
