What does "Mehadrin Kapparos" mean?
I have seen a number of ads this week for something called "Mehadrin Kapparos".
I was wondering what it means, what is mehadrin about one stand offering kapparos services over another. And, by the way, none of the ads themselves explained what was mehadrin about their services.
So here are my thoughts as to what "mehadrin" might mean in this context. Feel free to add your own:

- separate lines for men and women. Maybe females "clerks" selling the kapparos to female clients. this is too easy though
- they only use glatt chickens for kapparos. what happens if they slaughter one and find it not-glatt? Don't know since it doesn't exist...
- they only use money for kapparos and no chickens (snicker, snicker)
- they donate the chickens or their value only to the most poor families using the most machmir opinions of what is considered a poor person.

ReplyDeleteMaybe a giant chicken slings *you* over its head.
ReplyDeleteWhat does "Mehadrin Kapparos" mean?
ReplyDeleteMore expensive. As usual.
Or maybe they search for some nice white chickens for their kapparos? :-)
They wave it 689 times around your head כמנין תרנגול.
ReplyDeleteWomen have it waved 1089 times around their heads כמנין תרנגולת.
I think it has to do with the circumference of the swinging.
ReplyDeleteThe facts:
ReplyDeleteMehadrin just means - using chickens. Non-mehadrin is with money.
Avi: so the hiddur is not being choshesh for the shittah of the Mechaber (the Rashba and many others)?
ReplyDeleteOops. I meant to address that to the last anonymous
ReplyDeleteI think they pick out a chicken whose aura is most similar to yours.
