Picture of the Day

this is a picture from yesterday, not from last Sukkos.

I had seen a flyer last Shabbos for the "hilula" of Shimshon HaGibor. It would be commemorated by a group of mekubalim with a ceremony including circling the grave with the 4 species (lulav, esrog, hadasim and aravos).

I do not know why - not why in general (ie.e why circle a grave with lulav and esrog) nro why specifically the grave of Shimshon (i.e. I have never seen this ceremony, or it advertised, by other graves).

Nor do I know where they can even get a lulav and esrog in Israel at this time of the year.

  1. Rashi says that a classic example of בל תוסיף would be an extra מין in the 4 מינים.
Would taking them on an additional date also be B'Al Tosif? I would have thought so as we are Makpid not to take a Luluv or sit in a Succah on Shmini Atzeret, but then again I'm not a Mekubal

  2. being that I have no understanding or knowledge of what they are doing, it is difficult to have a conversation about this. abviously there is nothing rational going on here.
regarding bal tosif though, they arent doing it connected to sukkos (meaning, as an extra day of sukkos), and I doubt they were doing it as a mitzva of shaking the lulav and esrog for sukkos, so I doubt it is an issue of bal tosif.. but I dont really know

  3. It is easy to get an etrog this time of year. The etrogim we get for Sukkot are actually the secondary crop of the trees. The main crop grows over the winter like other citrus fruit, and the trees are currently full of fruit that mostly goes to waste.
