The question posed was that they think if people would not be strict to only marry within their own sect and group, it might solve the growing issue of older singles. For example, there are older Chassidishe men who have not yet found their match, and their are older Litvish or Sefardic women also not yet having found their match. If they could be set up to date each other, many of them might find their match and get married, but when a shidduch is presented from different communities and eidot, they are often rejected immediately. 

Because mixing and matching can lead to halachic questions, such as dealing with different minhagim, nusach of prayers, and the like, is this an issue to avoid as has been mostly done until now with people generally marrying only within their groups, or should an initiative be promoted to encourage people to date and marry people form other groups and eidot?

Rav Zilbershtein responded that the different minhagim and forms of service among different groups did not just form naturally over time but are related to the idea of the 12 tribes each with their own minhagim and mentality and style. Despite those differences in the tribes, Chazal say Tu Bshvat is a happy day because that is the day the tribes were allowed to marry into one another.

Ergo, nowadays as well - despite the differences, this is something we can overcome and halacha knows how to resolve all those questions that might come up. We have so much in common that it is a shame to focus on the minor differences and allow them to prevent people from building klal yisrael. It is a great mitzva to encourage this.

Beit Hillel and Beit Shammai also had differences yet they did not allow those differences to prevent them from marrying into each others families.

Interestingly, Rav Zilbershtein points out, that despite the differences and how different communities lived separately and in different places, the calendar year stayed the same among all the communities, with the holidays on the same days and shabbos and rosh chdesh, etc. Despite all the differences and developments, that all stayed the same. Rav Zilbershtein said that such a change would really have prevented people form marrying from other communities but Hashem helped us as a sign that he wants us all to be together and the differences we do have are minor.

while I havent seen the Jewish Matchmaking show, all the reviews I have seen or heard until now were extremely positive. Even Shapiro seems to think most of it is fine and just some of the participants are weird or not real

Rav Edelstein was speaking with a group of yeshiva bochurim working in the UTJ field offices to influence potential voters to vote UTJ. Rav Edelstein said they should keep at it even though the new zman has begun and their work to influence voters is a kiddush hashem, obligated by the Torah. That's not the interesting part. The interesting part is that he also said that of all the boys working in the offices and headquarters any of them that needs a shidduch will merit from this to a good shidduch quickly.

If my wife starts to volunteer for them I will know something is up! :-)

but really, it is a cute depiction, a creative way to accomplish the appearance of women's legs without actually showing women's legs.

The fat shaming and body focus is a bit harsh. There is nothing wrong with working out, fitness, and being healthy, but the focus here is slimming down to find a good shidduch, not workout to be healthy.

I like the bottom note - attractive group rates. Isnt the point of this so they will become attractive but right now these groups of young women are not attractive, growing in all the wrong ways, which is why they should work out?

We have already seen something similar, anti-vaccine based shidduchim services, though this is seemingly somewhat different. This service is for people who are not vaccinated, there will be no official shidduch fees - not for being set up or even upon getting engaged, and the nonsense of resumes will be done away with.

Also, this service is for non-vaccinated (specifically against CoronaVirus, not general antivax) people to be able to meet and date "like minded people". It says nothing about the shedding of infertility and thereby staying safe by only dating non-vaxxed people, so I guess this is already better than the other, or less weird.

It seems to me to be a relatively good thing. I don't care if non-vaccinated people want to date other non-vaccinated people. I guess it is a serious enough issue that it is reasonable for people to want to clear this one in advance, sort of like people who only want to date others who want to live in Israel or specifically others that do not want to live in Israel. So if someone out there wants to, or thinks he can, help these people meet and get married, maybe solve the shidduch crisis somewhat in some way, more power to him.

At the end of the day it does not seem to me that this is going to last very long. With the shidduch pool wide open people are having time finding their mates, with some sort of shidduch crisis supposedly happening. If they are going to limit the pool and make it really small, maybe it will help a few people find their mates but overall for most people it probably wont be overly useful, and at some point all this corona vaccine stuff will be forgotten or pushed behind us and people will want, or need, the larger pool of potential mates....

So anti-corona-vaxxers, go meet your mates easily now while you can!

Nix The Pix is an initiative by which shadchanim commit to not send, for 30 days, any shidduch resumes that include pictures of the prospects. So far they say over 220 shadchanim have joined the initiative.

Much ink has been spilled over the current behavior of sending, or demanding, pictures as part of the shidduch resume. The major objections to this include issues of tzniyus, prejudice, not giving the person a fair chance, and more.

Be that as it may, if it is bad, and they seem to recognize that it is, to send, or to demand, pictures of the shidduch prospect, they should never be doing it - not just for 30 days. And if it is not a bad thing, how is this a benefit to the victims?

Regardless, good for them for finding something unique to do, finding some way to commemorate the victims.

This new service is in light of the concerns based on studies, studies conducted in Israel and abroad, regarding the [CoronaVirus] vaccinations causing problems with fertility, along with the decision of Rav Malkiel Kotler, a new shidduch service that is fertility-concern-free has been started. This is only for people who have not been vaccinated at all.

I am not sure what they mean by not vaccinated at all - meaning, not even one dose of Corona vaccine or no vaccine at all as all vaccines cause fertility problems?

Regardless of this question, I find this somewhat humorous. 

The Haredi community loves to threaten that if this or that does not work according to the way they want, think the conversion law, weddings and divorces, etc, they will have too establish a "sefer yuchsin" - a lineage book to keep track of who is who so they will know who is really Jewish and who can marry with whom. That is a threat they pull out. Just a threat. As if it is a bad thing. Yet here they (some people) go doing just that - keeping track of who is who and who can marry whom. They are basing it on a vaccine rather than on conversion status...which makes it seem just silly.

That being said, I do wonder how they will know if someone coming to seek a shidduch through this service is vaccinated or not. Will they require negative serological tests? What about people who had Corona already? Will it just be on the honor system?

Will anyone with fertility problems after marrying through this service be thought of as a liar? 

Somehow I do not think this they have found the solution to the shidduch crisis... but if it helps a few people get married, somehow by offering a smaller pool of potential mates, good for them.

Marry thy Neighbor. Sounds almost like a biblical commandment.

No exception was granted form the lockdown regulations for weddings. So, it turns out, only "neighbors" can marry each other during this lockdown. 

the only way two people can get married is like a VENN diagram - as long as they both live within 1000 meters of the wedding location, they can get married. If either party lives farther away, the wedding will be illegal.

People need to start dating only neighbors, considering how unknown the future looks right now.

Another difficulty is the rabbi officiating at the wedding. if it is your private rabbi or rosh yeshiva, he too must live within 1000 meters of the wedding location. The only way out of that problem is to have an official city or neighborhood or regional rabbi officiate the wedding. An official rabbi holding a position from the State is granted an exception to perform his various services throughout the city, as all city residents are his charges.

This lockdown is affecting many people in many different ways, and people are upset and inconvenienced by it. That's life under a lockdown. Maybe if more people kept to the rules of the lockdown we could possibly get out of it a bit quicker. But so many people insist on having their freedom and not following the lockdown rules, it will likely take a bit longer to get out.
