Siyata Dshmaya
The Coalition just lost a big vote - the vote on changing the process of choosing the Chief Rabbis.
There was some story I did not quite understand - they made a deal with the Opposition regarding the vote, maybe someone would skip it to make up for Nir Orbach of the Coalition who couldnt come, or something like that, but then the Opposition broke the deal and by the time Orbach was able to get there it was too late.
The Opposition did its job. I dont know what exactly transpired there but the Coalition needs to not rely on the opposition to help it pass laws. the Coalition has to understand that on every important law they want to pass they need to make sure they have the votes and everyone in the coalition parties participates. They only hold a razor thin majority and cannot hope the Coalition will play along to save them.
That being said, I regularly find the Opposition gloating, specifically from the Haredi parties, ironic and funny. Every time the Coalition loses an important vote, the Haredi MKs go crazy in celebration and talk about how much siyata dshmaya, divine assistance, they have due to their efforts and how the Coalition has no siyata dshmaya. When the Coalition wins their votes the Haredi MKs do not mention anything about siyata dshmaya and who has it or who does not. The irony is that the Haredi MKs are not in government, so it seems the Coalition parties had that level of siyata dshmaya and the Opposition parties only have enough siyata dshmaya to win the occasional vote. I wish I knew when something could be marked down to siyata dshmaya and when it has nothing to do with it..
