Korban Pesach Reenactment (video)
There was a reenactment of the korban pesach the other day, for educational purposes. It was also, I think, to express our desire to renew the sacrifice, along with the educational aspect.
You can see much of it in the video below. The gory parts were not included in the video, and the parts shown are interesting and enlightening. There were a lot of kids present, and I hope they realize no korban was being sacrificed, rather it was educational.
Truthfully, and despite my have shechted numerous times, the ceremony looks almost paganic in nature. I guess we are just not used to this type of thing. Also, the final result hardly looks appetizing. Either they cooked it wrong, or the pesach meal in the times of the Temple was not quite as tantalizing as it has been made out to be.

Ok, that just confirmed my desire not to go back to korbanot.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, it was nice to see a mix of different religious Jews together. If they'd only played a game of basketball instead!
Not dignified. The site was dingy, the ceremony unceremonial, the crowds rowdy, the singing off-key and the resulting korban burnt and unappetizing. I suppose that is what the bayit shlishi will look like as well... which is why it is probably a good thing we are not rebuilding it before biyat hamashiah.
ReplyDeleteWell, we all can't be great singers but everyone was supposed to partake of the korban pesach so I guess that unless the coming of Moshiach guarantees us all perfect voices, there is going to be some off-key singing then as well. As far as the results looking a bit burned, I would assume that we will eventually learn how to roast the korban on a spit with better results with a bit more practice.
