Quote of the Day

When I could not find a quote that was even close to this one, i decided to drop it and not point it out. Then I considered that the exposure I give it is minuscule to the tens of thousands of people who heard it directly from him, so there is no reason why not. And it was probably the most sensationalist thing said in the past couple of days... It seems hate is the nature of the week this week...

The passuk says, כי יד על כס יה מלחמה לה' בעמלק, the wise ones said the seat of God is not complete as long as Amalek is around. What does it mean "as long as", and "His seat is not complete"? כס, that is kippa sruga. Do you hear? As long as there is kippa sruga, God's seat is not complete, that is Amalek. When will the seat be complete? Where there will be no more kippa sruga.
I said [to Rav Shmuel Eliyahu's father] we will be in a sad state if we were to have a rav who is next to Drukman and all the people of Amalek. These are Jews?

--- Rav Shalom Cohen, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Porat Yosef, at a shiur given right before Rav Ovadia Yosef's weekly shiur

  1. It is very very sad week that we hear this on motzash Chazon. So much hate...
Before the elections, Rav Ovadia said that Bayit Yehudi was bayit shel goyim, and then - voila! - Bennet proves this forecast right by officially speaking with Conservative and Reform and calling them our brothers. Now Rav Cohen, also a great mekubal, is saying something even stronger. Is he talking about the past BY behaviour of supporting Lapid, or is he also talking about something else coming in the future?

  2. I think it's best to follow Rav Zalman Melamed's opinion on this: don't respond to it.

  3. Right Josh, because Conservative and Reform are not our brothers...

  4. Speechless. What a truly disgusting drasha!

I hope he gets sacked for it. Because as much as I'm tempted to say, "Eh, it's just a hothead. Just a fool", etc., the truth is that the more this kind of garbage people hear from their "mentors", the more it gains acceptability. The only way to partly rectify it is to remove such people from public life - so as to PUBLICLY show that these sentiments aren't going to be tolerated.

  5. Tzvi, our brothers yes, but Bennet went further to legitimize them and aspirations.

Atheodox, the rabbi is one of the top Sepharadi rabbis, and no one plans to sack him. I think it was inadvertently a grand example of Kamtza and Bar Kamtza. Question is will be want to do tshuva, or merely look for blood?

    1. "inadvertent Kamtza and Bar Kamtza" - what are you talking about?

  6. Josh,

Reform & Conservative aspirations are a lot closer to what normal frum Jews want than are the charedi aspirations of sinas yisroel as represented by the rantings of Rabbis Yosef & Cohen.
